Happy Birthday Germany, we're 60!

The thread title might surprise you as Germany is obviously much older than 60 years. But the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (=Federal Republic of Germany) rose from the ashes of WWII on 23.5.1949. On 23rd May the Grundgesetz (=basic law), the new constitution was signed in Bonn, the new capital of (West-)Germany. This date marks the official founding date. A few months later the Soviet satelite, the DDR, Deutsche Demokratische Republik (=German Democratic Republic) was founded on 7.10.1949. As it is characteristical for the new Germany, there was not much celebration yesterday. Anyway happy birthday!

I congratulate to my German brothers for making a solid democracy with a good running economy. I think it is time though for Germany to man up and take a bigger responsibility in the governing of the world. Germany surrendered its forces once. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, never to give it up, keep on trying, follow through that is strength.
