What happens when USA isn't #1 anymore and China is

modern life takes a major overhaul from American type living to Chinese. (im talking to you TWCfanatic and your XBOX 360).


can we put our trust in china to lead the world, and see some great culture and progress (assuming that would happen because it happened to USA in the 20th century).

or would it be ? because God knows anywhere not western isn't anywhere i'd want to be.

China is a non-interventionist type, always has been and still is even if they become number one I doubt they'll be nearly as imposing as the US.

Assuming there isn't a major change in Chinese culture in the next few decades, China will not become like the USA any time soon. Despite its growing economic power and military, China is for China; China's primary concern is, well, China. So no, we won't see a big influence on the world of Chinese culture and military intervention beyond an increase in number of Chinese immigrants abroad, and more logistic cooperation between China and other nations.

Just because they're playing quiet and nice for now doesn't mean they're non-interventionist. Look at the last century. Just how non-interventionist has China been?

think of the culture in firefly and that'd be the it i reckon, except as others had said, china is non interventionist adn prefers to go through th e UN as an institution.

you'll see more ppl learnign and speaking chinese for sure, heck it's even hjappening now, plenty of americans go to china or taiwan to learn mandarin.

i reckon confucianism would be quite popular as well, taoism is already very popular amongst westerners (tao of pooh anyone?) as is buddhism.

culture and progress, sure why not? tan dun and lang lang foood for thought

i think any country would defend itself if another country was a threat to its safety

the chinese are very pragmatic so u wont see ideological 'crusades' against 'terrorists' but they are very iffy about their territorial integrity

Seriously, China won't start dominating the world. As a state, their Goverment is very well placed, but it's people arn't. The Chinese people themselves won't ever have more GDP/person than an American would. Because in order for that to happen, China would have to become more service-sector orientated. And if that happened, where'd all the cheap goods to buy come from? China's income comes from the fact that the richer countries are very eager to buy from them, and if that deal went, all of China's new found wealth would dissipate.

Since the USA is ranked 1st in many aspects, it helps to know what is meant by being #1, but I assume you mean GDP. It is probably inevitable that China will overtake the USA's GDP as it does have a population almost 4 times as big. Will this change much? Not external to China, but perhaps as the standard of living increases in China people may start to become more discontent with the government or the government may relax some of its laws to keep its wealthier citizens from emigrating.
