Default Entering Battle CTD after Umpacking M2TW in Vista

I got a new computer and I've just installed the game. It worked fine but I needed the files unpacked for Hiridia Total War's modding. So I unpacked it all. I can see all the files and the game starts how it should. The campaign works fine too, but when I get into battle I get CTD and a message of 'unspecified error':
Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unsespecified error and will now exit.

My computer is a Vista: Home Premium 64.

I depend on you guys. Please answer.

In the unpacker folder did you read the readme that came with it? Follow the directions in there on deleting the two geography files.

I don't know why, but those files don't appear. I don't have them in data/

They're in your c:/user/*/virtual store/sega/medieval II total war folder and hidden.

I tell vista to show me the hidden documents, but nothing appears.

A frightful combination: Vista and unpacking AND not reading the ReadMe file.

    c:/user/*/virtual store/sega/medieval II total war
The asteriks (what happened to obelix?) is your account name.

In My Computer, search for %appdata%. I've seen virtual store or roaming. It's in one of those.
