Icon10 How do you lower bad corruption?

I looked at my generals and none of them have negative stats so thats not it. At first corruption wasn't bad but now it is over 10k and I don't profit enough to counter act it. Please help

Moving your capital to the center of your kingdom seems to be a good start at least.

open the descr_settlement_mechanics.xml file with wordpad.
    find the following entry:

    <factor name="SIF_CORRUPTION">
and lower the "pip_modifier_value" below to something like 0.5 or lower and you wont have problems with corruption no more... well at least not 10k
addicted modder... but crap at it

If you play Gondor moving capital to Tarhost (or whatever the name is...) saves you 1400 gold per turn right from start.

Also building law boosting buildings decreases corruption -thanks to Axnsan for proving this.

modding the game files is not a very good solution to lower your corruption.

    here's what i suggest:

take a look at the strategy guide - some economy things might help

low distance to your capital is the most important thing indeed.
but law and other public order buildings only help up to a certain
    point of corruption.

if your have really bad corruption (and over 10k it is indeed quite bad) the
followings thinks might help. (it is very drastic but it helped me some time)

    (1)

    • watch all your generals traits
    • there are some that aer helping to spread corruption
    • if you find a bad guy (mostly these are adopted generals)
send them in battle and maybe let them be KIA

    (2)

    • look for the town(s) with the highest corruption
    • remove all military units from it
    • pull down all houses like council of chambers, inns and pubs, brothels
and all (dispensable) law, money and entertainment buildings
    • remove the general or family member from it and keep the taxes to very low
    • hold this for a few rounds, than start rebuilding all buildings you
need and move a general with fitting traits in it (should have low
      fear
and high authority and high obiedience) (SEE GUIDE BELOW)

    • i know it sounds realy pricy (and it is indeed) but it helped my becasue that will make an example to the corrupted people

how to get low fear and high authority and high obiedience:
(often binded to traits and retinues)

    • stay in settlements and order very low taxes for several turns
    • wandering around
    • fight some (heroic) battles in own or allied terretories (you must
have military access there) against rebels and evil enemy factions
    • release all captured battle prisoners everytime
    • don't sack settlemts and don't rob them too everytime
    • use a ship to go somewhere
    • stay in your capital with the faction leader for a few rounds
    • stay in settlements with highdeveloped law buildings
    • stay in settlements with highdeveloped entertainment buildings
    • stay in settlements with highdeveloped education buildings
    • stay away from brothels and pubs (can result good but mostly bad effects on your generals character)
(i never build them - only in one settlement for spies and assasins)
    • beat down a revolution in one of your settlements
      (by restore public order)
    • for the faction leader - acomplish missions

    > for more character changing traits and retinues take a look at the
'Third Age Total ar Royal Academy' from honga for traits and retinues
that effect the character of generals and family members
(but choose your played faction first!)

Totally missed you here mate. Are you saing to remove all army, general and all entertainment and law buildings?

What will you gain with that? Wouldn't corrpution go even higher?

What do you mean by saying "make an example to the corrupted people"?

Also is corruption "spreading"? Isnt't it just a function of distance from capital, buildings available and governor traits?

yes, remove all soldiers for a while (you can put them back later)

i found out that this tactic affected the corruption in my
    settlements in a long term.

    "Wouldn't corrpution go even higher?"
no - happiness and public order will get lower but corruption
which is a result of wealth. if there is nothing to be corrupted
in people get back to their primary and original business.

What do you mean by saying "make an example to the corrupted people"?
this way you show people what corruption does. and if a general
is to blame for the corruption you have a way to deal with that.

The further a city is rom the capitol the higher the corruption is. It is a side affect of a large and complex government.
