Default Listening to Evangelical Radio and the harm it can do.

Lately for fun I've been listening to a religious radio station.

In the morning they have sermons by Allister Beg. This guy knows his stuff, seems very sane, and if more pastors were like him I'm sure Christianity would benefit.

But the rest of the day is for the less educated, less charismatic, and far more crazy people.

So in the afternoon they have ask pastor soandso (I forget his name).

Well today a woman called, talking about how she has a friend who claims to see UFO's who always follow and harass him and how he took a picture of one with his cell phone. So pastor soandso first seems to give credence to the photo, as in he should have it examined by experts, then said of course they weren't UFO's or god would have told us about them, and finally that while there are no aliens there are demons and angels and maybe he is seeing them.

Not once did 'your friend needs psychiatric help' come into the conversation, or anything beyond that.

It really angered me that someone just got advice that the reason their friend sees UFO's was because he was being either chased by demons or visited by aliens.

It just reminded me of the harm that religions can do to people, right now in the US we have a 13 year old boy with very curable cancer on the run with his mother to avoid life saving treatment due to his religious belief (no christian).
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."

    My shameful truth.

Um...to start you don't have to listen to it if you don't want to.
2- There are people out there who claim to be Christians, get a "religious degree", and "preach" on the radio, even though they never teach about God or anything else from the Bible. They just hit people on the head(not kidding I know ya'll know what I'm talkin bout) and tell them they don't have cancer anymore, and ask for money to keep this wonderful act of God going.(God don't need money, and wth)
3- Basically their scammers. I've seen a commercial that said if you buy this book and touch it you will be healed from whatever(cost $100).
    4- These people aren't Christians.
5- Not a point I just want to point out that these people are universally hated except by the morons that believe them
6- I almost forgot to mention that there are some real ones on the radio-ones that don't do any of the things above

And I agree with you about the PO'd thing.

Well, you don't have to listen to them

I myself listen to these guys once in a while, some of them are actually pretty clever and...well...decent The rest are either extremist loons or scammers who I'm betting aren't even really Christians
