Lately for fun I've been listening to a religious radio station.
In the morning they have sermons by Allister Beg. This guy knows his stuff, seems very sane, and if more pastors were like him I'm sure Christianity would benefit.
But the rest of the day is for the less educated, less charismatic, and far more crazy people.
So in the afternoon they have ask pastor soandso (I forget his name).
Well today a woman called, talking about how she has a friend who claims to see UFO's who always follow and harass him and how he took a picture of one with his cell phone. So pastor soandso first seems to give credence to the photo, as in he should have it examined by experts, then said of course they weren't UFO's or god would have told us about them, and finally that while there are no aliens there are demons and angels and maybe he is seeing them.
Not once did 'your friend needs psychiatric help' come into the conversation, or anything beyond that.
It really angered me that someone just got advice that the reason their friend sees UFO's was because he was being either chased by demons or visited by aliens.
It just reminded me of the harm that religions can do to people, right now in the US we have a 13 year old boy with very curable cancer on the run with his mother to avoid life saving treatment due to his religious belief (no christian).
