Probably dumb question
(note, I really was not sure were to put this, please move if necessary)
OK, I am probably they world's greatest computer incompetent, and I am having a really rough time installing mods for empire, and I was wondering if there are any kind souls out there who would walk me through it. My first problem is I can't find any of the folders described in the installation instructions. I am currently trying to install this mod, but I can't find the empire data in winrar.
on a related matter a year or so ago I tried to learn to mod myself, but kept running into dead ends, because I could never find the necessary folders and documents. It always seems that my computer is just fundamentally organized differently then most. Could this be because I am using *sigh* Vista? Or am I just being thick?
Thanks

Re: Probably dumb question
Most of the time modders provide the installation instructions but in this case I guess not. Okay, so you download for example All faction Unlocked no FOW.zip. Open that in winRAR, once you see the file inside (startpos.esf) minimize the window. Open My Computer and this folder:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steam\steamapps\common\Empire Total War\Data\campaigns\main
or something close to that path, if that is not it just find Steam and from there you will surely find Empire Total War folder. Sorry cannot remember exactly the right path, just make sure to find the actual Empire Total War folder and from there data\campaigns\main.
Backup your original startpos.esf to some safe folder, then from winRAR drag an drop the modified startpos.esf to the folder you just backed up the original startpos.esf from (to data\campaigns\main). You should be done. That is it for this mod.
Most mods are really simple to install, if it comes as a patch, you just move that file to your data directory in main Empire Total War folder. If it comes as a pack you would get two files, one of course the pack itself which would also go to Empire Total War\data and the other file will probably be a .txt file which would go somewhere here:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts
^^ This folder is hidden, to show it, go to control panel>folder option>view tab and check show hidden files. This is the location on Windows 7, should be the same for Vista though.
Very simple once you get used to it. Just always remember to back up the files that you have to replace.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
P.S. By the way, it would probably be much better explained if you ask the question in the thread of that particular mod you are trying to install.
