Purely in the aim of increasing gameplay, is anyone interested in me swapping the starting locations around? I'm sick of all the boring matchups, usually your neighbours have very similar style units, at least initially. I'm thinking I might swap staring locations around for fun.
I'm thinking for ease just giving everyone 1 province at the start, and I thought I would spawn the Mongols somewhere else.

I think I would have to edit 2 files to do this.
I think I remember someone from Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod was going to work on a random generator for their mod , I'd play it if you post it
Thinking about it I'd have to give each faction at least 2 provinces, maybe 3 each, or an early setback by a poor sieging Ai will seriously hamstring them. I'm also thinking I would need to change the ratio between the number of Catholic to Muslim factions, as in the vanilla map the Islamic faction are fewer in number but have more lands to survive crusades.
I think I'd, for ease mostly, just set each province to be 25% Catholic, 25% Islamic, 25% Pagan and 25% Heretic. Maybe not in that ratio as 25% heretic may cause most early priests to go rogue.
For Rebel provinces I'll create two army types for each unit tree type (eg in vanilla rebels in Egypt have the Egypt unit roster). One army type will be the basic type, will be a little challenge but easily beatable, the second will be tough with the purpose being these provinces will remain rebel until later into the game. Then I'll randomly throw them around the map, so from the very get go the player will be guarenteed to fight a different unit roster.
I've started work on this. I've decided on 24 groups of three provinces for the factions to moved to.
I have set every provinces religion to 25 cath, 25 isl, 25 orth, 20 pag and 5 heretic.
I am working on moving the factions now. I'm using Geomod 0.37, I can use it to move characters but not to move the faction lands so I'm doing that manually. I will also change the starting lands to not have level 3 castles or cities. I've done Venice and Sicily. Venice is now at Diyarbakir, Mosul and Edessa. Sicily is at Groningen, Cologne and Hamburg.
After moving all factions I will need to fix up the rebels, give them armies where there are none. I will give some tough rebel provinces level 3 castles and cities.
I've got the Danes in the bottom SE corner of the map, with the closest rivals Hungary to the north, Vienna NW and Kiev SW.
Turkey starts where Scotland did, with Norvogord in South England and North France.
I'm almost done just moving the factions, when I'm done I'll post a pic of all the starting locations, I would like to hear opinions.
Once the positions are finalised I'll equalise the starting provinces, equalise the number of starting generals (and family members) and finally fix up the rebels (randomly give each province rebels of a different roster type).
I was planning on not changing the .tga pics that show you where each faction is when you select its shield on the faction select screen, because I can't be bothered. Is this what you mean?
If I do this you will select a faction not knowing where you begin and not knowing who your neighbours are.
