Default CTD at menu screens / faction selection.

I just reinstalled DLV 6.1 in my new PC, and with the 4th mouse click anywhere in the menus I have a CTD. Has anyone found such a problem again? I have also, TATW, SS, Chivalry II: The Sicilian Vespers and KGCM...

Read carefully this post and you will know all the known bugs
Bug Reports only for DLV 6.0 Kingdoms

    Reported (old, not fixed) bugs:
    - some units do not talk on the battlefield
    - don't jump too much between the faction selection screen in the campaign menus or the game will crash (not changable)
    - don't jump between battles and campaign selection screens or the game will crash (not changable)

    - no zooming with + button in minimap menue -- use F2 or F3 buttons
    - no correct graphic symbols in campaign menue for : norway, hedjaz

A mini-mod is never late! Nor is it ever early. It arrives precisely when I mean it to do!

Well, then you have to find this CTD a hellish lot of times just to decide which faction to begin, in historical or nirmal campaign.... Also, when I choose the historical pampaign, I waited for 20' and the game was still in the faction selection screen...

Use this link, Beorn. You'll find what you want and much more.

    Honga's DLV 6.0 Database.

P.S.: and be careful if you edit the family tree settings. Altering some values there can cause problems with the historical campaign selection (it happened to me, but I am at work and can't remember what it was).

Tweaking Family tree stuff can get dicey but usually only if you go really extreme. I have some recommended tweaks in the strat guide and there are some really helpful family tree tips by FURIN if you search the board. Cheers!

Xtiaan72, it is by following your tips that I ended in a strange loop where I chose Single player > Custom Campaign > Historical Campaign > Start > "loop to Custom Campaign". I can't remember the exact value that did that to my game. I'll try to see it later, when I'm at home.

I don't think so man. Those are the settings I always play on 'default' with and many others customize those files to their preference.... I have tested and messed with those files a lot.. If the family tree was "over tweaked" you would have crashed on launch. I never play 'Historical' though so maybe it is some weird thing with the historical campaign.

Let me know though cause that really sucks if people can't tweak that file on 'historical' and I'd like to help you get to the bottom of it. The game really is cooler with that file modded

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
