I can understand why Serbia could want Kosovo, it is historically a part of Serbia, there is a large part of Serbian history that is attached to the country/province (depending on the point of view), but I can also understand why Kosovo wants to be independant, it is for the most part Albanian, and the population was "ethnically cleasned" by Milosovic, now the Serbian nationalists will say that it is because of the KLA(?), who also commited attrocities, but in this situation it is "one man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist.
The situation I must say reminds me of the Alsace problem in the late 19th century and the early 20th, this province once again caused great unrest and disturbance in the region and was overblown by both sides!

I know the question was not directed towards me, however I would like to point out that the block of text provided by Vlad IV Felix above is not what you would find in 14th century Serbian and Greek texts, rather the block of text is a propaganda piece. I would recommend reading Wikipedia's article on the history of Kosovo; they present it from a neutral and unbiased standpoint. The picture provided by Vlad IV Felix is what we call Dušanov zakonik, or "Dušan's Code"; it was a legal code presented to the state congresses of my hometown and in Serres, Greece, and as such I fail to see how relevant it is to Kosovo being historically Serbian.
