It is frightening how easily people are swayed led or frightened. However I think perhaps the act of invading another western country could prove the tipping point that causes a military coup of some sort to restore a proper democracy though if those commanders were replaced before hand who knows.

We already committed an illegal war and everyone soon forget their outrage so.... gah that is frustrating. But as Milgrams experiments seem to indicate with authoritarian influence most people will follow orders despite the moral misgivings.

Well, a lot of their policies are near impossible to implement. They want to deport everyone who isnt "British". Yet they claim that having a passport doesnt automatically make you british, so they'd have to make extensive (not to mention expensive) background checks on a large percentage of the population to work out where they are "from" so they can attempt to deport them there. (its obviously not as simple as just throwing them across the channel into france).

If they tried to invade Ireland then I imagine we'd be suspended from the EU, UN and NATO. Sanctions would probably be taken against Britain. If we did invade Ireland, then I suppose military intervention might not be out of the question - Europe wouldnt be happy having such an aggressive nuclear power on their North Coast. Although that said the Army Top Brass is probably fairly conservative, and I can imagine some kind of mutiny if orders were made to invade Ireland (or even just if the BNP came to power).

Hopefully the monarch at the time would refuse to ask Griffin to be their Prime Minister, and that would result in another general I suppose.

In all honesty its impossible to accurately speculate on what would happen as public opinion would have to have shifted so radically if the BNP were to be voted in as the majority.

hopefully the upper house would fillibuster all laws that a BNP commons tried to send thru, forcing them to wait a year before any laws where passed (it may be 2 years would hvae to look it up again). in that time hopefully, 'something would be done' preferably legally, (The queen can disolve parlaiment after all, triggering a new election) If that is not possible I really don't know, a second (or third depends on if Willian of Orange counts) Civil War?

Precisely, hard to tell. As you say to take power they would have to have millions of supporters. They could'nt actually do too much unless they were a massivec majority or a dictatorship.

I would'nt be too sure about that. The British army has'nt turned against the establishment since the civil war. Remember all the rumours of army coup plots during the 70's Wilson government for being too left wing.

Its One Year I think, and yes; I cant see many of the Lords liking the BNP's proposals and since parties usually pack the House full of their own peers so they can force things through, the BNP's lack of peers would really count against them.

My immediate thought would be huge amounts of civil disobediance, riots etc. But if enough of the population hypothetically support the BNP for them to win, would there really be riots? The huge shift in public opinion required for this to happen would lead me to believe that people would be more sympathetic to the BNP.

But how long is it since the British Army has been asked to do something as shocking as invade a country as culturally similar as Ireland? Ireland isnt some Middle-Eastern dustbowl, its a place that has huge cultural similarities with Britain. And, to be blunt, its full of white westerners - they're "the same" as us.

True. But I don't think even the BNP would actually wish to go to war with Ireland, especially as about a quarter of mainland Britain is supposed to have Irish blood. I think they want to create a 'confederation of the Isles', whatever that is. I should'nt imagine they'd want a war with Ireland, what would be the point.

I'll give you a little timeline:

BNP Elected.
BNP home policy implementation (deportation of immigrants, authoritarian control of industry, national service), departure of the UK from the EU perhaps retaining the common market.
Civil unrest in Northern Ireland.
Republic of Ireland opts into full EU common defence.
International condemnation, no action.
Military buildup in the UK.

After that, it depends on if the BNP do indeed attack Ireland.
We'd see the first major European war in seven decades if they do.

They want to include "Éire" in a federation of the British isles.
As we would under no circumstances accept such a thing, especially with the BNP at the helm, they would resort to force.
Their military policies don't exist for the laugh.

Furthermore, they are committed to ending "segregation" in N.Ireland, i.e. forcing the Northern Irish to become what they define as British.

I would certainly do my best to resist the BNP. I'm not normally revolutionary material, but certainly I would be prepared to resort to armed resistance to a fascist regime in my homeland.
