Default Fog of war and alliances questions

    Hello,

I have 2 questions about the mod regarding alliances and fog of war:

    1. In my campaign the dwarves and high elves went to war. Since I don't think it is very accurate in terms of lore I tried to find a mod that will prevent it. I found this mod: Archaon's non-breakable alliances without a diplomat.

As far as I understand this mod will prevent the AI from breaking alliances, but first I need to force them to become allies. What I want to do is to make all the good factions in my campaign allies that have trade agreements and military access (and also bad factions). Is there any way to do this without starting a new campaign (for example by using the command line)? Will the mod work on an existing save game?

If there is no way to do it in the middle of a campaign, can you please link me to a mod that will do it at a start of a new campaign?

    2. I don't like the way fog of war works, Is there any way to make the fog of war in the mod work like the fow in Empire? (I can see everything my allies see, and I also know where all the towns are located and who controls them, but I cant see any armies unless me or my allies have a unit nearby).

If there is no way to make it work like that I would like at least not to have fow over the territories of my allies. (I know I can turn it off completely, but that’s not what I'm looking for).

    Thank you.

btw, I'm new on this forum, and I wanted to say that I like this mod a lot and I thank everyone who made it.

That's actually a very good question, I would like something like that, too.

    Open console and

    diplomatic_stance <faction_a> <faction_b> <allied/neutral/war>

The fog of war can't be changed I think.

Whoa, no way! I didn't know about that one. Thanks Boogeyman.

EDIT: no, wait, I get and "err: command not recognised" error message

I'm pretty sure that Archaon had a second submod that starts the good factions off as allies. New games only.

Doesnt work for me either, even when I use the names from the descr_strat file. (Gondor = Sicily, moors = dwarves).

the problem with the other files is that I need to start a new campaign for them to work, I'm trying to fix the situation in my current campaign.

Yeah, I should have tested it first. I'm pretty sure it worked in RTW

Hey guys, I'm not to sure which version you downloaded before but now my alliances mod for TATW 1.0 was completed with all factions good allied with good and same for bad with key alliances sharing military access.

The official TATW 1.1 patch has some of my changes included and i have not updated my mod yet for 1.1 but i will do it soon, just too much going on until Saturday.. sorry.

Thanks Archaon. I'm still on my first game. I look forward to it in game 2.

Thanks Magicana. Do you know if this is save game compatible?

Unfortunately any changes to DESCR_STRAT will only effect new campaigns. So if you want to enact it into a current game, you will have to cheat or do some serious diplomatic maneuvers to get an alliance in-game.

If you want a more permanent solution to this issue (Wanting diplomatic relations between two factions) then you can either use the above help, or manually change the values yourself.

It involves editing DESCR_STRAT, but the physical editing isn't too bad. (Note: for the following example, I know that England = Mordor and Sicily = Gondor). First you should alter the faction standings:

    faction_standings england, -0.9 sicily
    faction_standings sicily, -0.9 england
That means that England has extremely bad relations with Sicily. The minimum/maximum this can go to is -1.0, 1.0. You need to alter this on both sides. Then to have an alliance, you need to alter the faction relationships to the following:

    faction_relationships england, allied_with sicily
    faction_relationships sicily, allied_with england
This would create an alliance between Mordor and Gondor.

Now I know that it is entirely possible to download the forced diplomacy, and that would be the end of it. I provided this very short and simple tutorial because I am a firm believer in the old saying: 'Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he has food for the rest of his days.'

"strong alliance between Mordor and Gondor"... was that written right?

*Takes a quick look through DESCR_STRAT*

Yeah, unless I made a mistake somewhere that should create an alliance between Mordor and Gondor, and its "strength" is due to the faction relationships being at 1.0.

Edit: Oh I see what you mean, I was thinking that with the faction standings changed and an alliance made that it would be "strong". Just changing the faction relationships wouldn't make it "strong". Point taken

I think Archaon was refering to the choice of Gondor/Mordor. Also with both examples you gave, one made them hate each other the other made them allied, I am unsure that factions that are abysmal to each other would stay allied long.

Okay thanks. I think I've exhausted all "serious diplomatic maneuver" avenues in trying to get the High Elves and Eriador to become allies. No worries, I'll let them fight it out this game.

Thanks to everyone who answered about the alliances.

What about my second question about fog of war? There is no mod that changes it to work like the fog of war in Empire total war?
I think that even a mod for vanilla kingdoms might work, I just couldn't find anything similar.

I don't know how CA optimized their ETW engine for the campaign map as I haven't played ETW yet, but dude you definitely do not want what they call light fog of war in this game. It will lag a like a motherer and worse yet you couldn't stop it since you can't reverse your changes without coming out of the game...
