ARTIFICIAL "INTELLIGENCE"
New to the game... but one thing is appears silly.
When I attack a castle, I breach the wall, send some guys in, and after a little while they retreat to the town square... at that point it becomes a Turkey Shoot. I understand the victory conditions involve capturing the town square... but it seems very unrealistic... after the walls were breached the smart thing to do is to defend certain choke points and hold portions of the wall that have good fields of fire. Anyway...
It seems "for the most part" the AI is better at open field battles... but even there it seems to attack straight ahead which make flanking very easy. I seem to decimate the AI with archers and cavalry... as long as I have enough spearmen to hold the line for a little while.

Re: ARTIFICIAL "INTELLIGENCE"
As I understand it the artifical intelligence isn't very good. People made lots of mods though to improve it so maybe it helps if you download one of those. Fairly new to the game myself but trying Lands to Conquer.

The BAI is very dumb... That's well known, but it is very good in the campaign.
