    Default Remove assassins?

    Anyone know if there's a simple way to completely remove assassins from the mod without having to edit all the buildings used to recruit them?
    I don't enjoy using them and it just irritates me when the ai uses them against me and I end up reloading my game anyway.
    If it's easier could I just reduce their effectiveness to 0% or something?

    You could by giving generals a huge personal security bonus, the only reason they're still in the mod is to counteract spies.

    there is an extremely simple way of doing so:


    open export_descr_buildings.txt


    search the txt for the word "assa" (good enough)

    it will send you to the part related to the inns and pleasure centers.

    you can read "asssassin agent_limit 1"

    change all those agent limits to zero ("agent_limit 0")


    you have to change this in all the related buildings (they are 4 as far as i can remember)


    AI wont be able to field assassins and therefore it wont spend money on useless stuff (nor turn time)



    in fact, if there is a fix later on that allows you to keep using your savegame, you can just change this edb lines to what they were, and you will have access to assassins again.

    excellent! I thought it would be a long leborious process to remove them from the buildings but if there's only 4 then great! Thanks for the help

    should be rc compatible that doesn't affect the file i did i think not save agme compatible though

    I find assassins great fun to play with.
    If an enemy faction proves to be a pain in the ass, i usually send a bunch of 5 or more, well trained assassins, to start dispatching the Faction Heir and his family + seasoned generals.
    Very gratifying as revenge goes.
    Also the theory is that by cutting the head the rest will follow soon. I haven't managed yet to take a faction out of the game by killing all the big heads, but I am certainly gonna keep trying.

    Is it feasible to send a faction to oblivion by assassinating all the family members?
    Or will the AI keep replacing them constantly?

    i hate assassins. my best general who had the one ring got killed by an assassin wth 1 experience

    ImO in ME2TW assassins were almost useless against generals but in TATW they are pretty (almost too) effektive, did you guys experience the same?

    I really didn't start using Assassins until I controlled Harad in my current game and within a few turns grew to love them, I constantly keep a stable of assassions moving out at the head of my armies and I made it a Harad trademark that a few years before an invasion your family members and generals began dying mysteriously and then BOOM Harad invades.

    Then during the invasion my assassions were busy little bees just flitting about the theater killing captains, generals, etc. In fact during my final Gondor campaign I suspected the AI was trying desperately to keep the last faction member of Gondor's steward line away from my assassins as when my spy found him in one of his last cities and my assassions descended en masse, he suddenly sallied forth and rushed to another city. Funny stuff.

    I also found a great use for assassins when defending from invasions. Right now Harad holds Edoras and unexpectedly in taking Edoras from Isenguard I was "excommunicated" by Sauron and had an invasion called on me. So here I am, a tired beat up army holding Edoras against stacks from every other evil faction.

    Well as one Rhun faction gets close I decide to go for it and swarm them with assassins. Killed the general at the gates of Edoras and his army evaporates before my eyes. I LOVE the little bastards.

    Now mind you when the AI got to use assassins on me and lost a general I was not thrilled but live by the assassin die the assassin I guess.

    I did have some questions about them though. I remember very vaguely back in RTW that with an assassin you could really kill off things like rebel armies. In fact I remember using rebel stacks as practice to raise my assassins' stats. Now if you kill a captain the captain is dead but what does that mean to the stack? I don't ever see stacks disappear no matter how many captains I kill. DOes that sound right or am I misremembering something?

    I remember back in the MTW days when I still played how I massacred the Temujin royal family and leadership with assassins as a stop gap until I could get my forces prepared for them as they invaded the ME. Now I'm enjoying them in this game as well. Partly because I think the AI just never knew how to properly use assassins. If I suffered the kind of attrition Gondor and Isenguard suffered in lost generals and family members I would ask for assassins to be nerfed too.

    You can't eliminate a evil faction by assasins

    i lost 5 generals (all my invading force´s generals) including some 9stars kings.. in about 4 turns, against three gondorian -level 1 to 3- assassins.

    not funny at all.



    about rebels, if you kill their leader (and is not a general unit, like.. normal rebels) you only kill one soldier of the leader unit. another replaces him

    this way you can kill lots of men with your assassins thus helping them grow in quality, with just one rebel stack. just kill their leader every turn.

    some mods have found a way for this to not be usefull or so i remember right now. probably TATW is one of them, havent tested.

    Thanks miniwally - will use your file . I'm playing as the high elves, so I can't recruit assassins, and so it's slightly frustrating each time Isengard kills my general with one... and I can't do anything about it!

    get the elf one then unfortunately i can only work out how to add them so they have egyptian models.

    I do find assassins to be way to efficient tight now, as I used a single dale assassin to kill three members of rhûn royal house, and stop dead their invasion force. He went from level 1 to 4 in the process, getting 30 % chance to kill rhûn king, point when I stopped playing. Hope it will get fixed in next version, as it doesn't seem really middle earthy to have assassins kill legolas or aragon or the witch king...

    Each of my general goes with a Spy counter-assassin. They seem to reduce very well the killings.
