    Icon3 Guerrilla warfare, need tips!

I need idea's on guerrilla warfare as I now really want to test this in M2TW.

And since TATW has some adapted factions and interesting units I would love to hear smeo ideas.
Campaign map strategy, battle map strategy, units choice, army composition and everything

I want to hunt orcs in forests you see...

    Well actually is spelled "guerrilla"
The litheral translation would be like... little war. I think.

On your topic, well the only thing you can do in a TW game about that is to set up many ambushing armies around places where you know the enemy have to pass. You can also lure him with a small force to move to a certain place and have prepared a better army to ambush the enemy while he moves.

Besides that, you could also organise various "raiding" armies, and attack the most important economical cities of the enemy, sack them, destroy everything and leave. A poor enemy is a weak enemy (unless the script kicks in that is..)

Oh i forget...i like your user group

Thanks and I fied the title and OP.

I was actually refering to the large number of archers with the 'hide in forrests' trait and the eriador scouts and bandits.
The Silvian Elves are interesting too.
    And the Ithilian rangers.

But how to use them (to wound a larger force, I know ambushes.)

Silvan Elves are the best at guerilla warfare.

You can also attack with a small army of archers, hit them and then quickly retreat.

I'll wait for the redone Eriador.

BTW what does the trait 'expert at hinding in woods' add over normal units that hide in woods?
    Can they walk around stealthy?

I think (not 100% sure) that a unit need less "woods" on the battlemap to hide. So for example, if a normal units needs like 5 trees to be able to hide there, and expert unit would need only 3 trees to hide.

I'm playng Gondor campaign and i use Guerrilla tactics against Mordor and Haradrins and works very well, indeed if i don't use this i will guickly overwhelming.

Agains Haradrins i'm using an army composed with only cav. To stop and prevent attacks from the south i send these army to harras their cities, you easy avoid their foot forces and reach the cities more vulnerable, siege them and run whem one enemy army apears to help the settlement. Plus you can keep their armies far from you lands and sometimes crush a small force in the way (with mass charge the units flee easely).

I don't get rangers yet, but i'm using very well small forces togheter to bring orcs close to my fortress and crush with main army. You set 2 or 3 groups of 4 battalions (1 cav + 3 archers) and set ambush in trees, attack and run, attack and run (i'm using withdraw in middle of the battle) count as a defeat but i just harras their force. Is important you use at least 2 Guerrilla armies to providing support each other, whem one withdraw the other stop the enemy to pusuing him and them you withdraw again. The little orc forces are destroied in 1 turn, the big ones i can harras 20-40% of the original force until they reach one of my settlements. Of couse, i loose some bats in wrong manouvers, now i'm using spies to support this armies and prevent some unexpected enemies.

Tip: Don't use Gondor archers, use Militia, they are more cheap to train, maintain and replace and move faster.

When palying Harad, I always train raid parties and sack Gondorian coastal cities. Once sacked, I destroy every single building and then sell the settlement back to Gondor for a hefty price.

Repeat until Gondor's economy is so broken that they can't fight back.

I still want to know more about that trait, but I think I'll try so hide some men in Ithilien after I've kicked Harrad out of the South and replled the attack on west-osghiliat in my Gondor campaign.

But I want to start a more 'pure' guerrilla campaign.
Eriador or Silvian elfes and what tactics?
    Tree ambushes?

Take 3 or 4 sentinels and hide them on your major crossroads, or send them into enemy territory. When some stack comes out attack it. You can kill 25 - 50% of them in one battle, then retreat. Attack them again over the next turns, and destroy them.

While the obvious way is a ranged heavy army hiding inside trees and ambush an enemy, it does not have to obly be defending.

Generally having an army beeing out of reach from the enemy (or hiding) and striking at the enemy works. You might set objectives like kill as many enemy soldiers as possible and flee or maybe even move against the enemy general or try to thin certain elite units.

For sylvan elves for example having a general with a couple of horse archers and sentinels did wonders in my campaign.
Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.

I would agree that Arrow units, preferably Elven ones- in forests is good for hit and run. Forest will hide the units until in range, and in forests cavalry is less effective. If you can settle on higher ground that is even better.

On a larger scale the conquer and raze tactic is good too. Sack a decent town or city, usually where the enemy is at its weakest or a settlement that you know the script wont reinforce with extra troops, save the game, find out how much the faction is willing to give for the town, sell of every building and sell it back for sum or tribute and a ceasefire. If you have naval power retreat and wait a couple of turns. The AI with their scripted money will rebuild the buildings. Retake and sack and do the thing all over again. The vikings did it for hundreds of years, lets read some history for tips, ehhhh!
