I was surprised not to see a topic about this already here...

Well I saw it yesterday and it might have just been one of the best movies I have seen all year, if not the best. Its like a National Treasure, but all grown up with elements of a classic hostage movie thrown in. Since rumor has it the book is better than the movie, I will be picking up a copy to read poolside this summer.

I liked it. I mean, you kinda knew there would be a twist in there so I was expecting it the entire time, but overall I enjoyed the movie quite well. I tried to read the book a while ago but I couldn't get into it, but that's just because it's not my type of thing to read really.

I mostly watched it because of the two danish actors (the assassin and the blond security guy), but I must say I ended up enjoying it much more than I had expected, probably because they had many more changes from the book compared to The Da Vinci Mystery so there was still a few smaller suprises. I also really liked McGregors character.

I don't think it stirred as much controversy as the DaVinci Code did. I personally thought it had a pro-religious vibe to it or at least neutrality. The whole flavor seemed to be religion supported and proven by science.

Apparently it has more of Dan Brown's gibberish-as-history, however. Copernicus was murdered by the Vatican? So they induced his stroke, did they? Really? And the Illuminati were around in the 1500s? How - via a time machine? At one point Hanks delivers this load of bollocks:

“Geez, you guys don’t even read your own history, do you? 1668, the church kidnapped four Illuminati scientists and branded each one of them on the chest with the symbol of the cross, to purge them of their sins. And they executed them, threw their bodies in the street as a warning to others to stop questioning church ruling on scientific matters. They radicalized them. The Purga created a darker, more violent Illuminati, one bent on … on retribution.”

I'm sure the Swiss Guard captain didn't know all this "history". Because it's all total crap.

    But yes, it's only a movie ...

It was about science and religion reconciling the other to advance the whole of mankind.

McGregor's character lied about it though for self-advancement... and I really liked the book, and the movie, but damn it was long.

It was amusing. Even managed to surprise me towards the end.
Forgetting some brain farts like assassin walking into car provided for him by his employer and happily turning the key.

Hell, that had "car bomb" written all over it.
Better just have him disappear somewhere into traffic of Rome on foot after picking up the cash from car.

And part of the fun came from being permitted to explain, to my best ability, anti-matter to my lady after the movie.

I've saw it on Friday, great movie by the end of it I was expecting the twist but still it was unexpected.
I liked it more than The Da Vinci Code, I guess that it was the setting.

As a novel, Angels and demons is a rip roaring yarn about sgenanigans in the vatican as the mysterious illuminati seek to destroy the Holy See. On the mmovie front, however , Dan Brown is ill-served by the script writers in general and the director in particular. The film has little of the novel's zip and is hampered by clunky dialogue from reel one. Indeed as Tom Hanks and his various allies discuss the various clues that will lead them to the bad guys, there's a Scooby Doo vibe about the way each gets to utter....one....important.......sentence. As if it wasn't irritating enough, ton Howard is clearly the wrong man behind the camera. In essence A and D is a race against time thriller in whuch Hanks and co must reach an anti matter time bomb before it blows everyone to kingdom come. Howard had me looking at my watch.
