Indeed, they are not fully unlockable. It's my fault but I am sure Irmo will fix it soon.

Mmm, I'm downloading the startpos.esf for the start of the grand campaign, but I can't access any other factions, any idea why?

tiger - the protectorates need some scripting to unlock (so they don't get handed over), but up til now, there were only problems with the diplomacy after this, but as I believe Husserl has no very kindly fixed this for us, I think I could dig out the script which means they don't get handed over.

Lewbington - are you sure you extracted it to the right place? And are you sure my startpos overwrote the vanilla startpos (didn't just rename itself or something?)

Twizzle - That is probably not a problem with the mod, because I have played campaigns further than that, and I'm sure other people have as well. Try taking off all other mods, and if the problem still persists, try re-downloading the startpos.

The script is easy: In the same folder containing the startpos esf there is a scripting.lua file.

Open it and remove the coloured part

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    local advice = require "export_advice"
    local historic_events = require "export_historic_events"
    local scripting = require "EpisodicScripting"
    local camera_pan = 0

    local function OnFactionTurnStart(context)
    if conditions.TurnNumber(context) == 2 then
if conditions.FactionName("britain", context) and conditions.FactionIsHuman("britain", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:trigger_custom_mission("britain_protectorate", "britain", "protectorate_region_capture", 0, "georgia_usa+cherokee_territory+new_france", "", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_thirteen_colonies_text", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_thirteen_colonies_reward", 0, "thirteen_colonies", context)
elseif conditions.FactionName("spain", context) and conditions.FactionIsHuman("spain", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:trigger_custom_mission("spain_protectorate", "spain", "protectorate_region_capture", 0, "trinidad_tobago+tejas+curacao", "", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_new_spain_text", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_new_spain_reward", 0, "new_spain", context)
elseif conditions.FactionName("france", context) and conditions.FactionIsHuman("france", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:trigger_custom_mission("france_protectorate", "france", "protectorate_region_capture", 0, "michigan_territory+algonquin_territory+cherokee_territory", "", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_louisiana_text", "mission_text_text_main_protectorate_louisiana_reward", 0, "louisiana", context)
    end
    elseif conditions.TurnNumber(context) == 5 then
    scripting.game_interface:enable_auto_generated_missions(true)
    end

if conditions.FactionName("britain", context) and not conditions.FactionIsHuman("britain", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:grant_faction_handover("britain", "thirteen_colonies", 6, 15, context)
elseif conditions.FactionName("spain", context) and not conditions.FactionIsHuman("spain", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:grant_faction_handover("spain", "new_spain", 6, 15, context)
elseif conditions.FactionName("france", context) and not conditions.FactionIsHuman("france", context) then
    scripting.game_interface:grant_faction_handover("france", "louisiana", 6, 15, context)
    end
    end

    local function OnAdviceIssued(context)
    -- 0013_Battle_Advice_Missile_Superiority_Thread
    if conditions.AdviceJustDisplayed("-1875830202", context) then
    scripting.HighlightComponent("button_melee", true)

Then all you need to do is enable the playability in the startpos file (CAMPAIGN_PREOPEN_MAP_INFO -> CAMPAIGN_PLAYERS_SETUP -> PLAYERS_ARRAY browse for faction and set second boolean to true)

However like every protectorate the diplomacy is not fully working.

In my opinion if you want to play a nice campaign in North America, play the parent nation and complete the take-over mission.

Hey Irmo, know what has bugged me, the colonial factions. Cany you make a version that merges 13 Colonies with GB, New Spain with Spain and Lousiana with France on the get go? You would have to make the FOW go away over these area so you can see that part of your empire.

Yes, I will be uploading a startpos with protectorates hopefully within an hour or two of now - I think I have done the startpos, I just need to do the testing right now, and then upload it.

Emperor - I could do a version like that as well, I think know what script editing has to be done for that.

Have I done something wrong? I've just downloaded and tried to use this, but in the faction selection screen, pretty much all of the nations have 'not playable' in the description box. Also, how do I find the late campaign?

That is just the description, just play them as normal . As for the late campaign, it is not compatible with 1.3, and I am having trouble making it compatible with 1.3, so I would advise not to download it at the moment.

Wait...what? Lol, I thought there was an integrated Late Campaign?

edit: I'm doubly confused...all nations start play at 1783 now...

The integrated late campaign is Episode 4 of RTI, you can play it only as America though. The startpos was taken, and used as a base for the GC, which is how you previously could play all factions. However, that was the startpos for 1.2, and I have been having trouble upgrading it to 1.3, so I have removed it for the time being.

Ok, let me get this straight....this 'late campaign' everyone has been talking about...it's nothing more than RTI's episode 4, right? When I hear 'early' and 'late' campaigns, I'm thinking two separate things, ala Medieval 2 total war. Now...your startpos moves the play date forward to 1783, right?

When you hear late campaign, you think two seperate things ala Stainless Steel - there was no early and late campaign in M2TW I think.

You can download early or late campaign, which are the same map, at two different dates, with different territories belonging to different factions, so they are two seperate things. However, no-one knows how to let you download two startposes, and choose which one you want to use like in RTI. When that is figured out, you will have two different camapigns, and you can choose between them.

The late campaign is RTI episode 4, and you can play all the factions, the early campaign is the normal GC.

For M2TW there was an early campaign beginning in 1080, and late campaign in 1220.

Riiiiight, okay 99% there, but...you mean to say, since I've downloaded your files and am currently using them...the start date of 1783 is default? Sorry if it sounds like we're going in circles here, but I've had the game only for two weeks and while I might know Medieval and Rome inside-out, this game structure isn't making any sense

If you download the file Early Campaign No FOW Bug!.zip, you will get the normal GC with all factions unlocked. If you download Late Camapaign No FOW Bug x Turns.zip you will get the late campaign (ie starting in 1783) with all factions unlocked.

Finally managed to upload the protectorates file! Wooh... my internet connection is really slow today .

    Yes.

The Early Protectorate version isn't working for me. The Regular version works fine, but when I try to load any faction (major, minor or protectorate), it loads for a few seconds then kicks me back to the main menu.

Isn't it? Try taking off all other mods, make sure that everything is extracted properly. If that fails to work, take off my mod, see if ETW vanilla works, and then re-download the mod. If it still fails, ask here again.
