They do if the army is not to small. If only a small amount of units survive even after you release the prisoners they still disband. This is a nice way to increase your chivalry without increasing the enemy numbers. If you captured aboout ~25 soldiers and there is no general in between and no enemies escaped release them.Sorry for yet another question but when i release prisoners do they join the faction i captured them from?
I have been offered a Woodmans guild in my campaign. Which i think increases the experience of the archer units recruited there. Playing as the HE what other guilds are there and what effect do they have on the city or the units in that city.
Lore I presume. Dale was only very recently rebuilt then and Esgargoth had, at that time, a longer and more reliable trading history.
//
as far as i remember from reading "The Hobbit" the city of Dale was empty and
destroyed because of the dragon Smaug - and in that time Esgaroth was the
capitol. afterwards dale had to be rebuild over long years after the battle of
the five armies - well esgaroth was destroyed too (by the dragon) but it was
still the capitol.
and TATW starts 80 years before the ring battle, where Bilbo is 31 years old
(because he is 111 a few month before the battle of the ring began)
so the game starts between "the Hobbit" and "the fellowship of the ring".
so everything seems to be fine. and later you can change Dale to capitol anytime to play lorewise.

Is it possible to close the gates of a town/castle after sallying forth????
Yes. Get everyone back in and they close. Don't get conned into getting chased back in by cavalry though! Archers on walls & ballista towers also seem to increase the enemies desire to stay away from your walls, so they make good cover for the retreating sally party!
"Who is the king of earthly kings, the greatest giver of gold and rings?"
Thanks I got caught with my cavalry running down skirmishers in a big siege.
sometimes, units standing right behind the gate will cause that it wont close. You have to move them away from the gate.
I believe you know what I mean - some reserve holding the gate in case that enemy will persue you or whatever.
Yea I know the name is terrible, but it's not really finished.
Could someone send me please unmodified (version 1.4, no submods) files:
