Default - Official 'Ask Questions About TATW 1.0 - 3.2 Here' Thread -

The several threads that contain only 1 question are becoming increasingly irritating to me, on the first page alone we have: To build or not to build, questions, Need help with archers, Gondor, When Besieged, enemy drops siege equipment WTF?, To build or not to build... that's the question, Weather questions and Where do I begin. To (hopefully) prevent such threads and to make Life for Jean Luc a little bit easier I decided to try to bring the good ol' AQH thread Back to life so:

This is not a discussion thread and everybody would prefer if asked questions could be answered in 1 or only a few posts!

The thread is not about modding, bugs and technical help. Questions or discussions regarding Tolkien can be places in the Tolkien General Discussion. Bug reports go here, suggestions in the suggestions thread and information about factions can be found here

    FAQ

    Extended FAQ:

Can Elves die of old age?
Yes all characters in the mod can die of old age. The age limit is higher than in Vanilla TW though so it is unlikely that any general dies of old age unless he is already past 50 at the start of the campaign.

Can Elves die of disease in TATW
    Diseases are disabled in TATW.

How can I have Eomer get the correct portrait at his coming of age.
By making him an emergent general whom would not be in the family tree.

Can I enable the console after I disabled it in a hotseat campaign without starting over?
    No you cannot.

How do I remove the stake script version 0.5?
Open the campaign_script.txt file and remove everything between:
    ;########## Germanicu5 Integrated Stakes script v0.5 ###############
    and the line:
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;; HA fix;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Is it possiabe to make some animations to campaing map? Now there is wawes at sea but something else?
-Make smoke coming from Mount Doom and
-Some voice from there. Thundering and voices like that would impress me.
-The great eye would be shining...
-In Mordor land would be little time more darker and then clearier because that dark clouds what Sauron is making from Mt. Doom.
    -Ents yelling from Fangor forest.
    -And something...

(sorry I saw that suggestion forum but how i can move this post to there )

The waves at sea are actually the way the texture is not really animation. Because the models and skeletons for the campaign map are legacy items from RTW new animations are not exactly possible. For example we CAN'T added horses or anything like that. We could change the way a diplomate offers for talks, or the way a character walks, or attacks an army.

-Make smoke coming from Mount Doom and
    Not possible

-Some voice from there. Thundering and voices like that would impress me.
Not too sure what you are asking.

-The great eye would be shining...
Again, not too sure what you are saying

-In Mordor land would be little time more darker and then clearier because that dark clouds what Sauron is making from Mt. Doom.
Editing the environments on the battle map aren't top priority at the moment.

    -Ents yelling from Fangor forest.
    Huh?

    1. it's frowned upon if you ask questions by starting a new thread
    2. it's frowned upon if you generally socialize and get off topic in any way
    3. any subject matter conversation (aka Tolkien) are frowned upon (unless specifically threaded)

You're making too many assumptions here, things aren't so black & white. Especially #1 (It's frowned upon if you ask questions by starting a new thread), I mean this would really defeat the purpose of a forum.

I (and others) don't mind if people "socialize", discuss lore or ask questions but there is a fine line between what is acceptable and what is too much or just outright ridiculous. It really comes down to how much and in what manner is something done.

As for this thread. While I don't mind it I doubt it's going to work out. "Ask questions here" is a very general statement and is going to attract all kinds of disruptive posts that don't really belong here.

What if someone asks a lore question? As it is with lore this could produce a large discussion that would drown this whole thread.

What about a technical question/problem? Those have their own section but there's a good chance that someone new will see this "ask questions" sign and come straight here (as has already happened).

Modding questions? Well, depends. I guess when it comes to small inquires like "How do I increase armour ox X unit?", it would be better to ask here than make a new thread in the already crowded submods section.

Other smaller questions (that arguably don't deserve a separate thread) are basically the FAQ questions like "where are custom settlements", "when's the next patch?" plus the ridiculous ones like "Is Legolas a Silvan or Sindarin elf?", "Is Galadriel a ghost?" etc.

I'm afraid that when all those things start mixing in this one place it's going to simply end up as one big mess.

It would be best if people simply used the links in the op to find their way around but I'm not optimistic about that either.

Anyway let's give it a chance and see what happens.

so I can ask anything I want to in here then?

if so, what is the driving motivation behind wanting evil to win? I have friends who I've turned on to this mod who just LOVE evil and they can't explain why. I've read on here a few guys who love being the evil side. Where does that passion come from? How to empathize with evil so thoroughly that you arent willing to play the good side? I get playing both side for fun but my one friend, who cant articulate it to save his life, just HAS to play evil...

okay i know what the 'evil' factions are but how do you
characterize them. they are fellowers of melkor but what
    makes them evil?

just compare - lets say - Germany and USA or Russia in WWI. ask the
germans who is evil and than ask the US or Russia who is evil. it is
    just a matter of opinion.

okay fellowers of melkor are evil all others are good. but remember
the dwarves beeing at wear with the elves in earlier times. who
    was evil there.

and i guess you played both christian and muslim factions in vanilla too!

I classify Melkor as being evil as Sauron is trying to enslave the free peoples of the world and the inverse are trying to prevent him. I'm not sure how you could argue it any other way but if you're willing to give it a shot I'll certainly listen.

okay lets don't make this thread become a discussion thread.
i think "it is a matter of opinion" is quite okay. for sauron the
free people are the enemy and for the free people sauron is
the enemy. both want to get (back) land from the opponent
and both want to dispel the other.

i personally don't like the 'evil' factions too, but they are worth
to play because game wise every faction has its own advantages
and challenges, that are worth playing. because of fun.

beautiful, I just thought of a question that I really wanted to know the answer too, but didn't want to start a new thread about it (And I used the search function and all that jazz).
Do goblins get a population growth bonus, I know that they replenish their unit pools faster but is the rate that the population of their cities grows faster than average?

I'm not sure but I suspect that that is only possible by the governor having +popgrowth traits/retinue. Could be that Evil faction generals all get this trait by default. Respect has pop growth bonuses too. And certain buildings.

If some of the goblin walls could increase the population growth it would be fixed as well.

Possibly the reason people ignore this thread is that they dont always get there questions answered, i only read a thread based on the topic how many people will read this thread based on the topic?. I know i seem to spam, it is my character. Maybe the single questions posts are unimportant so is twitter and look at the popularity of that(poor argument, apologies again)
i wouldnt think that there is such a thing as too much discussion, i think a garbled diverse forum suits the Tolkein world, the dwarfs are single minded completely focused neat freaks, the orcs cause chaos wherever they go, The elves revel in natures chaos, the ents are too lazy to care, the humans are all about maximum spam and living in the moment. Am fairly sure the hobbits where all stoners with Gandalf being there drug god???
This forum may represent that well.
