    Default [Archived] Preview for Next Version!

    The mod will change from a mini-mod to an independent RTR submod - it will have its own mod-folder and no longer inteferes with your RTR installation!

    • Hetairoi (Companion Cavalry; General)
    • Agema Kataphraktoi (Cataphracts)
    • Hippeis Xystophoroi (Heavy Cavalry)
    • Hippeis Elaphroi (Medium Cavalry)
    • Toxotai Syriakoi (Syrian Archer; AOR)
    • Persikoi Pantodapoi Phalangitai (Persian Native Pikemen)
    • Medoi Lonchophoroi (Median Heavy Cavalry), shared with Parthians
    • Medoi Doryphoroi (Median Spearmen), shared with Parthians

    Minor changes for Parthians


    All the cataphract archers are removed due to historical-accuracy issue. One armour HA is added - it's used in early Sassanian period so the parthians may have them as well.

    Misc planned units - plan postponed

    • Galatikoi Kleruchoi - galatian settlers / heavy infantry (Ptolemaic)

    Free people faction
    ... to hold wastelands such as Sahara:


    It's meant for:
    1. AI factions wouldn't expand into these useless regions.
    2. Players can make trade with them!

    Battle changes
    • Both of hoplites and phalangites have been changed from defensive units to offensive ones - they will appear to be stronger frontally, but much more vulnerable to flanking attacks, just like what they were in history.
    • Faster battles with higher casuality
    • Elite units have reduced defense, so they're no longer immortal...


    Other changes
    • Increased recruitment time, higher attack but lowered defense for elite units (so they can die).
    • More bonus for AI generals: tax, trade, command, money.....
    • Split government/public-order buildings from barracks. So far there is only one type of government:
      • Self-Governing Community: the most common type of government (to the conquered) in classical age. It means the central government would simply NOT intefere with local communities, except to collect tax and levy soldiers.
      More is planned but they'd probably be for roman-only....
    • New loading screens and mod launcher!!!

    Progress update:
    Small modification for parthian units:

    All the cataphract archers are removed/changed due to historical-accuracy issue. One armour HA is added - it's used in early Sassanian period so the parthians may have had them as well

    The horse looks pretty good. One thing though, what`s the attachement to the side of its head? Is that supposed to be a pom-pon or something like that?
    Btw, can you show a bigger picture of the armoured horse archer?

    Well they're not meant to be impressive, because the unit has been demoted from top-tier to medium-low

    Probably not They're exclusively horse archers and only appeared very briefly, and then they all disappeared alongwith other native Sassanian HAs. I added it because I want armoured HAs so badly......

    Well, I`ve done a bi mod and my current sassanids unfortunately are a rather underrepresented faction. Hence my sudden interest in late parthians.

    You could find a lot of info in Osprey's books:
    • Rome's Enemies (3) - Parthans & Sassanid Persians
    • Rome's Enemies (5) - The Desert Frontier (covering Sassanid's Arab allies)
    • Shadows in the Desert: Ancient Persia at War

    Sassanisn military were quite differrent from Parthian's actually. They abandoned the all-cavalry mobile army that Parthians used, and changed to combined infantry + heavy cavalry.

    BTW why not just use IBFD's sassanisn roster?

    And Sassanian Elite Cavalry. I know. Montvert has a way better title on the subject though(Sassanian Armies). It wasn`t a problem of sources or modern interpretations as much as a problem of finished units. I`m not a modeller and I don`t consider myself a skinner either. Anyway, I guess I`ve spammed your thread enough. Good luck with the parthians!

    hey just happend to pop by after remembering the cool thracian units. Are those going to be perfected? You also mentioned putting marian reforms back in. I cant wait to see what happens to the seleuicds

    Oh unfortunately I don't have enough time to perfect the barbarian factions. Too much work in the eastern part! And I couldn't put a lot of time modding now.
