depends on faction. im dwarves at the mo. so i either defend (sit on teh nearest hill with my battle line or seige assult. seiges assult are interesting. usuraly i destroy the gates first. then i get the most powerul unit i can in a long thin sheild wall collum. esnt these through the enemy at the gates closely follewowed by som normal troops. the sheid wall spilits the enemy like beuute and goes to the plaza. your support troops mop up the rest of hte enemy at th gates
Fire arrows.
Just fire arrows.
I normally fill my armies with archers, with some infantry for melee protection of the archers and a few cavs for chases. Then volley after volley of arrow normally routs most units. If you can set yourself up on a hill, that really helps too.
Usually trying to get the most out of my advantage in stats and morale, trying to rout the enemy a.s.a.p.
How i do it depends on the race i am actually playing, so i use either cavalry + archers (rohan, gondor) simply mass archers (elves) or brute force, catapults and ballistas (dwarves)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|>Deus ex Machinegun<|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I am outnumbered I like to have my infantry in 1 line in the center, then I put archers with skirmish ability on my flanks so they can usually draw off some units and distract them by running all around the map while my infantry faces the main force in the center, then I try to flank with my cavalry. If gondor I usually have some non skirmishing archers too behind my infantry hitting anything at a safe distance beyond my infantry or trying to manuever around to shoot into the flanks or backs of the enemy. Seems to work out well .
As the elves I've been setting my infantry as far back as possible and setting my archers up close to skirmish and bleed the enemy all the way back to my infantry, then I mop up.
suround and charge the rear,
and no, that's not a double entandra
Archers with Light Infantry and some Light cavalry.
As gondor after I get the right barracks and other military building I make a army of 1 general 4 spearmen 4 heavy infantry 6 archers and 4 to 5 cavalry if 4 I try to fit a siege unit trebuchet if I can if not catapult.
| | _______ ||
--------
======
As rohan I make cavalry..........that's itnow I do make armies to take cities and stuff but when it comes to open battles full army of cavalry and a general with a lot of fear first charge makes the enemy route and loose around 20% to 30% of their men. When I fight spearmen I just distracted them to look one way then flank them pikemen I use missile cavalry.
--------- ================= ----------
As any elf archers and a few spearmen just in case for cavalry units (dame nazguls)
___________
-------------
As dwarves I have all infantry then siege equipment for range so I will have a few cross bow men and I will send them out on the sides and fire into the enemy when they engage my troops.
__________
-- ========= --
I only change tactics and formations when there is different terrain then I will position my men for the best advantage.![]()
To use Punisher's symbols, my tactics are pretty much like the same for any raceIt goes for full armies, for smaller armies I try to reproduce this (defensive) tactic as best as possible...
= = =_____________________ = = =
|| ------------------------------------------ ||
Spearmen hold the line, heavy infantry wares down his flanks, cavalry outflanks... In the second phase of the battle the heavy infantry and cavalry make a sandwich...
If I'm inferior in unit quality, i might reinforce the spearmen line by putting a thin line heavy infantry behind them, if they should brake...
In all my years of MTW, I've yet to see an AI save its teeth form this one... The only problem you might encounter is if the enemy has a vastly superior unit type, but even then the Ai is one foot in it's own grave![]()
My archers take out half of the enemy while they are advancing, once they are close my light infantry charges out and pins the enemy in place (Wavering) and then my Grey company with 2 other generals come running in (rout)
BTW I am only fighting OoTMM atm. Isengard is already 'dead' (Only Isengard left) and Rhun Mordor and Harad are being owned by the other good factions.
Exactly, down to the last detail, the same as how I use Elves. Works great and only the light infantry will take alot of casualties, those damn uruks sometimes dont rout fast enough so you do end up seeing elfies die.
Generals bodyguard as heavy cavalry are incredibly tough, something on the order of 34 effing defense? Their horses dont even have any barding...
yeah the GB can be very strong kind of like a hero already in the gameI like having a genreal that is cav but I like that the sivilan elves and dale have archers they are really good.
_____[GB]
It's a defensive tactic, to be sure, but it never fails me.
1. Use cavalry to destroy enemy archers
2. My archers rain fiery death on the masses engaged against my front line.
3. Spear\defensive units and GB protect flanks and archers
4. Cavalry either counter enemy cavalry or come in for the rear charge to rout the enemy.
Example Army:
1 General's Bodyguard
2 Melee Cavalry
~2-4 Spear\Defensive infantry
~6-10 Heavy\Offensive Infantry
~4-6 Archers
Depending on who I play - but lately I've been playing Elves and Gondor and in both cases I tend to play similar tactics since they both are heavy infantry/archer heavy.
I'll typically start a battle trying to find nearby high ground or a bit of elevation and then use the ridge as a natural defensive position and then position my troops oriented towards the enemies like this:
=== Heavy Infantry
*** Archers
^^^ Cavalry
___ Space
I start off the actual engagement with archers out front to maximise their range.
========
___^^___
Once the opponents close I'll have the archers fall back and have infantry take the front line and form a defensive shield, then cavalry will shift to whichever side looks easiest to exploit or be held in reserve to plug any possible gaps in my defenses.
_======_
=******=
_________^^
Occasionally, if I know that I'm going to have to face trolls or heavy cavalry I'll intentionally keep a cheap "throw away" unit or two ahead of the main force as cannon fodder to absorb the shock of the opponents initial charge and to tie up their heavies long enough for my archers to soften 'em up or for my heavy infantry to surround them. Typically this will be light infantry and occasionally even light cavalry...
This is not quite a battle tatic but in a way it is.Can someone tell me how to move my capital.Playing as High Elves i keep getting attacked at my capital city because it is right next to the misty mountains.Plus i believe i will have better income if my capital is around my other territories.Can someone help.I read that it can be done but do not know how to do it.
When you look on you building screen there are three buttons on the bottom of the page that opened one is show settlement details click on that another page will open then there are two buttons on the bottom of that one. One of them is change this city to capital
Battle map tactic - sit back, let my archers pound them to pieces, then flank with cavalry.
Campaign map - help out the good factions, maybe have a little fun attacking eridaor![]()
No problem my friend.![]()
I need to find a good offensive strategy because on the battlefield I am more defensive unless I have cavalry.What would you guys say are good tactics on an offensive strike?
