Some people need a few classical tastes:

Composers you should listen too and an example of their music:
    Richard Wagner

    Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Also give a try at Contemporary classical music (1975- Today)
    John Adams

I personally like this version better, they're both extraordinary though.

And Alfons, i would suggest almost anything conducted by Herbert von Karajan, check out 'Ode to joy' when he is conducting the Berliner Philarmoniker orchestra, its completely breath taking.

Some VERY good ones have been said, I will say some that I like below that haven't been said already...

Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 is amazing
    Mozart Symphony No. 40
Mozart Rondo Alla Turca (Turkish March)
Cavalleria Rusticana Intermezzo (Can't think of Composer off the top of my head)
Vivaldi Four Seasons (Spring is my favorite of the four pieces)
    Beethoven Moonlight Sonata
    Beethoven 5th Symphony
Greensleeves/What Child is This? (Composer literally unknown)

    Not really classical but...
    Nino Rota Romeo and Juliet
Requiem for a Dream (Can't think of Composer)
O Fortuna (Crazy song just for laughs usually, you'll recognize it)

Try this, it's called Un Sospiro, "A Sigh":

I love the unconventional Classical music, which shows it to be far less stuffy and stiff than most people realize.

See if anything you listen to today beats this:

(ignore his bony hands and close your eyes )

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."

    Chopin is overrated.
