How do europa universalis 2 compare to EU 3?

i cant run EU 3, so i was thinking i should get EU 2 instead... is that a good idea?

how does it compare to EU 3?

what did'nt you like about the game?

any bugs? how good are the AI?

just tell me a little about it, please

ah now this is a question i am suited for (and as my sig shows a little biased)

in my opinion EU2 is the better of the games - there are some features that EU3 has over EU2, but not many

EU2 is far more historical (but there are a lot of mods aimed more for fun), EU2 is often considered as the 'fan game' whilst (at least as much as paradox ever does) EU3 is more of a broad base game (campare it as vanilla tw to the mods - how many people play vanilla?)

the time spent in the game is longer - by about 100 years.

The game is slightly easier to play - in terms of interface, not difficulty - but still statasfingly challenging.

as an older game it runs better on alot of computers - and with the vast number of patchs that have appeared over the years it is still comparable to more moddern ai advancements


EU3 is often (by EU2 fans) critisised as 'pretting up' EU2 and changing some of the more disired hardcoded things (mainly for modding) at the expense of overall game play and acuracy

just my opinion and as i say i am biased in EU2s favour but having played (and owning both games) i do prefer EU2

im gonna buy it... but are you saying i shouldnt get any mods as they just make it more fun but at the same time unhistorical?

no not at all - EU2s most famous mod AGCEEP is often over criticsized as being over historical

it was a comparison i was making compared to EU3, in that EU3 sacrafises some of the history of EU2 to make it more broadly attractive

You can more than likely find it fairly cheep and it is well worth the money - a word of warning though, paradox games can often be fairly baffling when you first play (all of them not just EU2), stick with it and feel free to PM me if you have any questions

I found EU2 the easiest to pick up and play. The interface is awesome and the map is sexy. Also there are loads of kick ass mods.

I am of a different opinion. I think EU3 is much easier to play. I also hate the event spam of EU2 that just seem so arbitrary at times. Event after event reducing stability or investments. I do not like it at all, frankly. I have yet to figure out how to reinforce regiments in EU3.

I feel EU3 is more organized. Other small things in EU2 annoy me. For example, you can't see armies from the political map. Armies are easier to find for me too.

This could also be because I'm still not familiar with its interface.
