    Default CTD by loading a battle

    Can someone help me? I am playing Isengard and want to fight a battle against a army of Gondor in a round. But the game doesn't load the battle, but has a type of CTD.

    Then I get this message: Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

    Thank you for your help in advance.

    This problem appears every second battle. I thought at first that the problem has to do with the option "Attack at night", but the CTD happens also, when I did not activate this option. So can somebody help me?

    If your operating Vista, turn off the UAC, this may be the problem.

    The UAC? Explanation please. I have encountered the same problem.

    Edit: also, I am unable to fight any battle. This error happens whenever I try any of them

    Alright, I figured out you meant User Access Control. I turned it off but I am still getting the same problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game has not helped me, and for some reason I am unable to uninstall the 3rd Age downloads.

    I'm having the same problem. Its irritating having the exit the game after every battle in order to avoid any crashes.

    EDIT: Oh, and I'm using XP

    This could mean some driver or hardware issue too, as battle is much more demanding resource-wise.

    If installing newest drivers and DirectX doesn't work, try putting this in TATW.cfg file:
    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level = * trace
    ;level = * error
    After your game CTDs, open the log file (found in MTW main directory in "logs" folder) , go to the bottom and see what happened directly before it crashed (you may find some stakes/label errors, but they're normal).

    Regards
    I have no memory of this place.

    Its not just the game that crashes, the entire computer freezes and has to be restarted manually. In vanilla (or with Broken Crescent, For King for Country, Stainless Steel, etc) I can play battles with up to 13,000 units on highest settings (most units with 240 men in them) with no problems, but with this mod a battle with just 2,000 men will crash it. That's why I get the impression its not my computer that's the problem.

    Are the three of us the only people having this problem?

    EDIT: I should add that this wasn't a problem until I installed patch 1.1. No sub mods or alterations to the TATW. The crashes started immediately after installing the patch.

    The battles
    worked for me before, so it might be something that I changed. I noticed the error after I tried to make changes to my medieval2.preferance file and even though I changed it back to what it originally was, my game still does not work.

    Clumber,
    I see you have two options:
    1. Defrag, Use CCleaner to clean up files and then a registry clean up. If it does not work then
    2. Remove TATW completely, defrag, clean up and Registry clean. Then re-install.

    Theo,
    R U using any sub mods with TATW 1.0, before 1.1?

    Nope.

    This was annoying at first but I've gotten used to reloading to avoid it happening. This is certainly nothing major, especially if no one else is experiencing it.

    To deisntall TATW just use the deinstaller and then remove the TATW folder.
