    Default Floating Flag

    This is my first post on this site and I must apologize for making it a request rather than a comment or helpful statement.

    But, I do have a problem that I hope the TWC community can help me figure out.

    I was playing M2TW and using some of the outstanding mods discovered here at TWC (ie. Dues Lo Vult, Third Age, and etc.); however, when I went back to the original M2TW I noticed that there were some alterations in the game.

    Firstly, my unit were larger than the original (75 units). <<< This I am fine with

    And secondly, I noticed that when I played in real time -- the floating flags that was above my troops and my enemies forces were gone.

    I research online and I find out I needed to change a "show_banners=1" in the medieval2.preference.cfg file in the M2TW folder. However, in the medieval2.preference.cfg file, there were only fours lines shown

    [video]
    widescreen=1
    [game]
    allusers=1

    So, I added the "show_banners=1" under the [video] and saved it. This did not change anything.

    Can someone, please, help me with this problem?

    Thanks.

    Every mod has a .cfg file. How it is named and its location is up to the mod's creators. When you find one of those with that line you can copy it to your base Medieval2 folder and rename it medieval2.preferences.cfg. Whatever changes you make, make this file read-only or the game will generate a new one by default.

    Thanks for the reply, irishron

    However, my concern isn't for a particular mod -- it is for the original M2TW. I don't know why any changes being done to the mods should effect the overall gaming in the original M2TW.

    Also, shouldn't there be multiple lines in the "medieval2.preference.cfg" (located in the SEGA\Medieval II Total War)?

    Like I stated in my first post I added a "show_banners=1" to medieval2.preference.cfg, so in the file it looks like...

    [video]
    widescreen=1
    show_banners=1
    [game]
    allusers=1

    And plus, I saved it as a Read-Only file.

    But the problem still occurs.

    Is there anything else you would like me to added?

    DarkRoma,

    if the problem still persists and the OS for your computer is Vista ; you could try disabling the UAC (User Account Control) and edit the preferences.cfg file again.

    It's only a 256mb card. No, I could run unlimited men but never bothered change it.

    It was the best card ATI had two years ago before they released the HD series.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    Thanks for all of help. Disabling UAC did bring back the "floating flag"; however, it removed all of my past saved games.

    And enabling UAC prevents me from seeing the "floating flag" during real-time game play, but gives me back my previously saved games and larger units.

    I guess I have to pick one over the other.

    Thanks again!!
