Got roped into watching the Netflix series “Clickbait”. Starts out really interesting premise-wise as a bit of a whodunnit before pulling one of the most irritating reveals/endings I’ve ever seen in the mystery genre. Like, it did a great job of retaining my interest and keeping me guessing through 7 out of the 8 total episodes then pulls the most answers I’ve ever seen out of its ass and pretty much invalidates the entire series up to that point. Would not recommend wasting your time on it.

Well, looks like I survived another Christmas.
Judging by my chest pains, won't be long now.

Let's see what New Year's has to offer.

    The Big White

Don't know why they call it that, to be honest.
    Robin Williams is great, obviously.
Giovanni Ribisi is also very convincing as a spineless, corporate reptilian.

This felt like a Cohen Brothers production without the Cohens. It had all the trademarks.
Incapable felons, weird conspiracy, Mexican Standoffs gone wrong, you name it.

    Now I gotta see it.
P.S: Also, I guess it kinda lived up to its name, didn't it?

Don't look up: when deep impact meets idiocracy, imo this one misses more than it hits.
Not my kind of parody, but if you are a fan of hot shots and naked gun, it could be for you.

    Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

    Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

I liked Vol. 1 better. The most dead serious silliest I've seen.

Lmao my girlfriend liked it but she said the same thing, Penguin. The entire show ends up being Clickbait with its dog ending.

@Araval I agree that Volume 1 is much better than 2. It feels to me like Kill Bill was originally intended to be 1 film (well, I know it was) but had too much content for 1 film and was split into 2 films, while simultaneously not having enough story to fill 2. I get this feeling when I watch them that a lot more of the story’s best content takes place in 1.

Ive been rewatching Life and Times of Tim which I first saw over a decade ago on HBO and it’s still one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Think an intentionally shittily animated Curb Your Enthusiasm starring an awkward loser rather than a successful ass.

Next on my list of dark depressing Christmas comedies is (drumroll):

    The Ref

Kinda hits too close to home.
Characters were so obnoxious (especially Loyd's Mom) that at times it felt like I was watching my own family.
Not very pleasant, I should say.

But at least it's got Dennis Leary.
Before he stole jokes from Hicks, that is.

Yeah, and here's who he stole it from:

    Louis C.K: Sorry

    The master's back.
What's truly astounding is his ability to broach uncomfortable subjects comfortably.

    One of a kind.

    Initiation

    Nice.
It's always good to find a slasher movie where you can sympathize with the killer.
You'll see why at the end.

Takes a bit too long for the whole thing to unfold but it gets you there.
Oh yes, it gets you there.

It is my great pleasure to introduce to you this jewel of a movie.

    Titane 2021

This is not a film, it is an experience.
The French, traumatizing audiences since they invented cinema, have done it again.

    The New Mutants (2020)

I liked it. But I think horror should have had more emphasis.

    Don’t Look Up:

I’m sure everyone who follows film knows the basic premise of this film: Leo and JLaw find a comet hurtling towards Earth destined to destroy the planet. It was fairly entertaining but it did have a tendency to drag a bit. I thought that the social satire was pretty apt, almost like a modern but not as good Dr Strangelove, and a lot of great stuff was done simply in terms of how it was filmed. I did get a bit numb to just how absurdly on the nose it was about being specifically a Trump/COVID critique but I guess that was also the obvious point and will improve the film for others. My final verdict will be that for all it’s numerous minor shortcomings, the performances are really great and I did find myself truly invested in these characters by the time the finale hit. 7.5/10, solid film, fully invests itself in its premise.

    Kick-ass Korean drama.
    Should've watched this sooner.

    Death to 2021

I'm sorry, guys, but can we all agree that 2021 wasn't a walk in the park?
You know how I know this year was bad?

Because I wasn't crying of happiness during New Year's, that's for sure.

    Mother/Android.
    Netfilx.

Starts out pretty quick, the world has created androids to fill in the menial jobs, and they rebel. That's the first five minutes. There's nothing really new, but they tell the tale in reasonable order, with some good twists and high emotions. Cast are solid, effects are cheap but okay, stand out soundtrack.

    Kitchen Nightmares: Amy’s Baking Company

Ive seen episodes of Ramsay’s series, both UK and US versions, but nothing like this. Most episodes follow the standard “go to restaurant, find out the kitchen and maybe also building itself is disgusting/outdated and identify one staff member/owner to scapegoat and push to change their behavior” formula but this episode is like staring into the face of pure insanity. It was so entertaining watching two bat insane owners fight with Ramsay after initially impressing him in the areas these places usually the bed in and then him just giving up entirely. He couldn’t fix the place because he was a chef, not a psychiatrist, and I genuinely believe it wasn’t staged like a lot of these shows

    The Rising Hawk (2019)

Twisted script but overally a bit clumsily done.
