    Default Making armor upgrades work?

is there any submod that makes the upgrades work?

    ***** UPDATE //NOTE THESE FILES WERE FOR 1.0 *******
I have found a solution, copy the attached file to your folder and overwrite the original, may be a problem if you have added additional units or done other changes to that particular file.

ive also added the original file here as a backup

    ***** For 1.1 release******

for 1.1 i will release the fix later but if you already have some changed units or submods heres how you do it.

Open the file export_descr_unit.txt in notepad. for each unit find the line

    armour_ug_levels

it is generally followed by one or two numbers to allow all units to get all upgrades change the lines to

    armour_ug_levels 0, 1, 2, 3

when done, save and launch game.

It is an easy fix but boring, takes a while to fix all these lines.

And you dont need models for the upgraded units just keep the following line

    armour_ug_models lossarnach

as it is, it doesnt matter.

could they just give improved stats? The aesthetics don't matter so much...
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

im fixing it now, just a quick question, how many levels of armor is there? 0-3 or 0-4?

Fixing the armor for all the units is a huge pain. I decided to just make smiths give discounts on retraining and an extra experience to troops at higher levels.

hrmm ok now this is a foul hack
all units(except siege engines and ships) now start with armor 0 and are upgradable up to lvl 4(if it exists).
I've attached the file, just copy it into the mods data folder and overwrite the original.

and if you are a bit eager, and wrote over the original unit without saving it, heres the original.
just remove the "(original)" part of the name and copy it into the mods data folder and over write the one there.

    That won't work Botjer.

    armour_ug_levels 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
    armour_ug_models lossarnach

    Should instead read:

    armour_ug_levels 0, 1, 2, 3
    armour_ug_models lossarnach, lossarnach, lossarnach, lossarnach

A unit can have a maximum of 3 upgrades and you have to specify the model for each

Also armour_ug_levels specifies the level of smith required so you have to start with the correct level like so:

    armour_ug_levels 2, 3, 4, 5
    armour_ug_models lossarnach, lossarnach, lossarnach, lossarnach

So that when heavy mail is available they get an upgrade, rather than starting with light mail and getting an upgrade for leather then light mail, etc.

ive tested it and it doesnt seem to mind, where wont it work? it wont actually use the new stats in combat? because when testing it i could upgrade both in custom battle and in campaign with the resulting increase in armor stats, and the models worked ingame. i dont know if they actually recieved the armorbonus in combat. but it says that they do

For sure, 4 levels cannot work.

You're getting it to work correctly without specifiying a model for the upgrade?

well the swan knights had lvl 4 on their upgrades so i thought that maybe there were 4 levels. the game doesnt bother though so it wont be a problem

looking at buildings and their upgrades i see that the campaign has actually 6 levels of upgrades, so if those buildings are ingame you could actually have 0-6 armor levels.
    no building - armour 0
    leather tanner - armour 1
    Blacksmith - armour 2
    Armourer - armour 3
    heavy armourer - armour 4
    plate armourer - armour 5
    gothic armourer - armour 6

but how will you differentiate for the guys that are already in 18 points of armor? I may be pulling numbers out of the air but I do believe many dwarves start with crazy high armor, probably because they are in armourer or higher armor already. will you still give them the buffs for leather even when they start in plate?

You can look in the building browser to find out which smiths are available.

Vanilla has smith levels 0-6 but it makes no difference, a unit can only have 3 upgrades.

I'm surprised that it works without a model specified.

but yes, you can only upgrade your units armorvalue three times. as it is right now.
but most can get armour 4
    and dwarves can get armour

now if they've added this to the game, these two 4 and 5 must do something, but what? and where can i find what they do?
