What do you think about Judd Apatow? Comedic genius or hack? He's made some hilarious movies (Superbad, Knocked Up), but using the same cast in all of them is lame.

He's definitely flooding the market. Too many similar movies and I don't really care anymore.

Uhm, Superbad was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Greg Mottola. While produced by Apatow it's stretching it a bit to call it his movie.

I did notice though that people start being confused these days "oh seth rogen, paul rudd, jason segel...must be apatow".
Either way, I think I like his work for the most part, he certainly opened the doors for a bit more witty and daring comedy.

while not director, the producer wields a great amount of say in American studios (they make the final calls in a lot of decisions). So, while not technically his films, for all intents and purposes, they might as well be.

Now, as for the OP, I think these guys are ing hilarious, but there is too much of a good thing.

    That'd be simplifying it.

    Produced by
    Judd Apatow .... producer
    Evan Goldberg .... executive producer
    Shauna Robertson .... producer
    Seth Rogen .... executive producer
    Dara Weintraub .... co-producer

true, there are a lot of producers, but the top producer (ie, the producer) is (according to wiki) the "Individual who has the greatest involvement and oversight among a film's various producers."

I dont think its lame, I love the cast. Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd are some of my favorite movie comedians.

Well I dont know if all the movie staring that comedy troup have Apatow involved but I too think they're overdoing it with the number of films that group of guys have been in lately.

Honestly, I don't really like Seth Rogen...actually he's the one out of all of them I dislike the most. He's just the young Adam Sandler of the late 2000s, some people like him and think he's a comedic genius - some don't and think he's just stupid and annoying.

BTW, just so everyone's clear here's a list of what's he's actually done with what film:

I kind of like them, compared to most American comedy movies they're actually quite good.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Absolutely hilarious. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my favorite movies ever. 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up were funny but the better movies are the ones he produces, like Superbad. Though Superbad's director deserves credit -- both Superbad and Adventureland are made of shiny WIN. But Apatow has definitely produced some of the funniest movies evar -- come on guys, Anchorman!

"Dude, that was in second grade."
