Default europa universalis 3 is extremely boring and tedious

I heard nice things about this game and decided to try the demo. What a borefest. All you do in this game is stare at the map, scroll around, and wait hours just to do anything let alone earn money. Few limited, and worthless diplomatic options. In fact I think the tw campaign maps are way better and funner than EU3.

The map isn't colorful, and your actions on the map don't often pay off for years and years, but EU3 is far denser than Med2 will ever be. I didn't start turning a real profit for decades in my first game, but when I did I was proud of myself . It's just not for everyone I guess.

That's your opinion. The demo is however highly lacking as far as I can tell.

Yeah, demo doesn't let you do a lot. Full game is awesome.

I tried to like the demo, but its too boring, and tedious. How is the real game "better" than the demo?

I never had the demo (I had the previous game in the series and a few others by that company), but here's what I've gathered:
    1. I believe there's a limit in how long you can play.
    2. The AI is ridiculously belligerent.
    3. There's no colonizing or exploring.
    4. You can't play as anyone outside of europe.
    5. Due to the shorter length of the game and way the AI behaves, there's zero incentive to play by any other means than warmongering while in the full game it is entirely possible to come into possession of a large empire with too much warring at all (you can inherit other nations by various means- by "asking" nicely that they become your vassal and later annexing them, by using a royal marriage and then by chance putting your nation in personal union with another...when your monarch dies there's X percentage chance you'll add all of their lands to your own)
    6. Considerably less moddability. Modders can do a lot more with paradox games generally than you can with TW games, as there's a huge amount of variables that aren't hard-coded, relatively speaking.

But, I know, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Everything seems to take longer but ultimately it feels a million times more fulfilling. I played TW games for years and years and by the time M2TW came out I was just incredibly bored with how easy and predictable it was. Paradox games like EUIII were the perfect pick-me-up...

If that's your opinion, then there's either one of two cases.

-This game isn't for you. It looks like that because it's all about tactics and strategy.
-You haven't attempted to understand how the game really works. Without that it does seem crap, because it's just confusing.

Read up on the mechanics of the game until you've at least got a grasp of it. Then, if it's still boring, it simply isn't your cup of tea.

The second one made me not play it for months, then however...

It's a much deeper, more complicated game.

It may sound sorta mean, but I sorta feel like I've been graduating from shallow to deeper games for a long time. From Age of Empires to Total War, from Total War to Paradox.

the demo is from 1492 to 1530, it just takes forever to get money and build things first of all. Diplomacy seems extremely limited, hence my topic on the demo being very boring and tedious. Anyone played both the demo and fullgame can give me comparisons of the two?

I have. The demo is a lot shallower, especially since the Demo is only the original whereas In Nomine adds a lot of extra nifty features to the game (such as automatic merchant sending, introduced in NA iirc). Diplomacy is pretty much the same though.

On the subject of money, that's likely because you simply don't know how to manage the economy. When I first started playing the demo I was poor as hell, so I asked some questions here. Now that I understand the mechanics of things like Trade, Inflation and Minting, i'm making a fair amount of money. Likewise, even if you are good on the money making front, the game does have a slow pace. Don't expect to say pick England, then proceed to conquer Scotland and Ireland within 10 years.

Damned, actually I did that every England game!!

Not my fault though, Scotland always declare war on me for whatever reason - in fact, it is like they want to do it no matter what (like claim my throne, spying, try to ask France to fight me; if all that fail, they just declare war on me).

I would imagine this may be the opinion of the average TW fan of Paradox games in general. If one is into streamrolling the map within 50yrs with very little impediment that is. Paradox games are for the long term strategic planner in a manner of speaking. If all one wants to do is conquer everything in your path and subtlety be damned. Then perhaps this isn't the game for you. Though playing at warmonger can actually be quite fun if one is into that sort of thing. If it's not for you, then it's not for you and that's ok. But let's be reasonable. TW games are fun and do have pleasing attributes. Diplomacy and depth of campaigns however are not among them.

guess shiney objects take ur fancy more than in depth gameplay?

saying tw is better and then saying eu3 has extremely limited diplomacy is hilarious...(do i need to explain? i think most people would understand my amusement here)

Even though EU3 has no in depth battles or flashy graphics, I can play it for hours.

I don't know why... I simply enjoy it.

i guess i have a unique perspective as i came to tw from paradox

in tw the battles are good fun, but in paradox games especially eu its all about the long term and the in depth campaign - the diplomacy system far outreaches tw's and the economic problems give a better sense of realism that tw does.

saying that the battles in eu are very simple. Something that can be either pleasing or displeasing depending on my mood

this is not so much of a war game as a realism game, but well worth playing - if you can get over the confusion that takes hold on any new paradox game
