Default How to disable "pausing" after arrows hit?

It doesn't make any sense (to me) for soldiers who don't get hit by an arrow to stop rushing, yet they do, giving archers a huge advantage in the kiting "skirmish" tactic.

So how do I make the whole unit keep rushing with only dead soldiers stopping/falling over?

It's lame. Every time a volley of arrows hit, every single soldier does this wierd little pause > 360 degree turn while waiting for they guys who got hit to catch up > resume forward progress.

I want them ALL to charge unless they are DEAD.

It's impossible unless you're great at animations and coding.

    Arrows aren't insta kill y'know.

The people stop from getting hit and the people behind them slow down, I think its very good.

Yeah, you might get an arrow in your shield and the impact of it is gonna slow you down/force you to remove the arrow from your shield. Or if you get hit in the chest for example but your armour protects you, you're going to be a bit winded/stunned from the impact. And if it does penetrate you, it won't necessarily kill you. An arrow in the leg or arm whatever isn't gonna kill you.

They may freeze as a reaction to something coming straight towards them something to do with a certain hormone in the human body

A quick workaround seems to be setting the archers a speed penalty of .7 and boosting the speed of melee units to 1.4. Then setting the charge distance to 80.

However. The AI still tries to kite(skirmish) and for some damn reason, even when I set the melee unit to impetuous, they disengage the archers after killing a few of them and just stand there. so each time I have to double click on the archers again to resume chasing. WTF? Is there an aggro setting where I can make them chase units I have them attack forever?

I'm leaning towards just disabling skirmish altogether. I think it's the can_withdraw attribute? Help please

I think I found it: adding cannot_skirmish to attributes and testing

If you're on about what i said theres 2 reactions to fear you can have (you only have one or the other depending on who you are). Run like hell or freeze and stand still. The two different hormones create this so the hormone isn't called fear

Your marching at the enemy and you suddenly see a whole bunch of arrows flying towards you. You either hit the deck and cover your head with your shield like a big woos or you stand or crouch down with your shield in front.

If you saw a volley of a thousand arrows flying towards you would your first reaction be to stop and gaze at them or run straight at them?

I still need help resolving the problem of a unit just standing there if their target withdraws instead of chasing them to the edge of the map

I only get this behaviour (I think) when my unit is in Guard mode.

Would you just keep running if there was a volley coming at you?
or stop an try to block or dodge

I have to agree with this guy. For men, it makes sense, as well as dwarves and elves. But orcs really shouldn't have this happening. Did the Uruk-Hai stop attacking just because Boromir was kicking their a** or because the Rohirrim at Helms Deep weren't backing down? What about the orcs at Osilgiath, who were assaulting a heavily position defended by the best Gondor coudld send. It makes the least sense for Beserkers, who are supposed to care nothing for themselves, yet pause after every volley. Keep this for every other race, but the orcs should defintley be immune to it.

BTW, is this even possible to make?

I guess for certain elite orcs you can do this but are you saying the Snagas won't stand and cower with fear?

Orcs were very bloodthirsty and could be very easily riled up. In the fighting afterward, their fervour would cool off if they realize they aren't winning and only then break and run.

Still, a unit pauses when 300 arrows slam into them, even if just to step over the bodies of the first 3 rows. I agree if its easily doable(I doubt it), the pause time could be shortened a bit. Otherwise its too minor an issue to worry about, because you shouldn't send a single unit unsupported against archers anyway. You pay the price.
