    Default Map of Middle Earth?

    Hey all.

    Obscure question here.
I was wondering if anybody knows where I could find a complete map of Middle Earth? I vaguely remember seeing one at one point in time, and it intrigued me.

It somewhat bothers me that the North-Western parts are the most famed.

Infact, obscure question #2: did Tolkien write anything about elsewhere in Middle Earth?

This would be the entire map of Arda from before the first age. As you can see the inland sea of helcar covers what is now Rhun and Mordor so its not the third age

If you cant see the picture try the link:

This one is good. However is you just type arda in google images a colored one shows up after searching a few pages. tolkiengateway.net I believe. The colored large map of arda is forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?p=3507817, you have to find a post by Reddhawk its almost halfway down.

I am always fascinated by the more mysterious areas of Middle Earth, all that land that is only vaguelly mentioned by JRT.Its vast expanses offer the prospect of numerous new factions for modders to get their teeth into. Im sure given another 60 years JRT would have enlightend us with wonderous tales from The Dark lands and The Wild woods! Anyhow the maps are there we should go explore!

Being a fantasy story anyway, there is nothing to stop the imagination of modders to fill a globe of fun.

about Arda on the google image linked to the two continents are linked together so why havent any living creature, man, dwarve, elf tried to get atleast north of
angmar and that area? and the mountain chain that goes from forchel to the iron hills?
If people isnt over the minimum standard of living... lower the standard..
if there is too much poverty in a sociaty, lower the poverty line... my qoutes... comment them if you will...

In the first age they were linked but when Beleriand sank the connection also broke. After that in the second age when the king of numenor tried to invade Valinor, Eru removed Valinor from the world and made the world round. Now only elves can reach it by ship by following the straight path.

Oh and crossing through Helcaraxe in the first age would have proved VERY difficult anyway, it was cold, hard to get around, un explored and the valar would probably stop you once you got to Valinor.

this one is maybe the most lore-correct one because it is after the one of the 2nd age of the historical atlas which had been blessed by Tolkien(at least by Christopher) as far as I know and the mention in the introduction
    thx for the link HUtH

too bad he died before he could write a epic trilogy about each of them, or he could get the main plot and Jackson could finish.

Mmmm perhaps after he makes The Curse of Mormegal I,II & III...The Tale of Beren & Luthien (with an extended version with 30 minutes of extra smootchiness for the girls) and Morgoth Bauglir 'Iff I Ruled The World' . The Dark Lands is big enough to have a mod all of its own!

    Thanks for all that.

Yeah, but I wonder whether the history would have been enjoyable? Definitely not worth making a movie out of it, right? I guess the maps could have been filled up a bit more.. but oh well.

So Beleriand was sunk, huh? interesting.

I think the map looks kind of barren at some points as its designed like one of those medieval maps, where ppl knew about the expanse of lands & some continents, while they had not completely mapped, let alone seen them.
(The cartographer may have heard about a great continent further east, covered with woods and mountains, yet he has never seen it and was forced to make most details up by himself)
