    Icon5 Starting Preference?

I was wondering how people like to start out their campaigns. Do you prefer to turtle and then build "super" armies to take over the world, or do prefer quickly recruiting mock-up armies in the beginning of the campaign and taking out weaker nations in the beginning?

Personally, I prefer a hybrid of these. I don't take many territories in the first quarter of the campaign usually, unless there is some good opportunity. For example, in the last campaign I played, which was Great Britain on VH/VH, New Orleans was taken by rebels and I seized the opprutunity to give me a starting point for my later conquest of southern North America. Oh, and I also prefer taking out Native Americans early. Other than those two things, I just build up my economy though. How about you guys?

Depends on the faction. My favorites are Prussia and the UP's.

For Prussia I like to storm several provinces early and then stop for a bit and wait to unlock fire by rank, dragoons, some cannon techs, etc. and upgrade economic structures before advancing.

For the UP's, I like to spend a great deal of time focusing purely on economics. Once I'm really rich I like to build an elite stack that I can use to go island hopping in the caribbean, and another one in India to attack Mysore.

Yeah, it's better to storm with Prussia because in the beginning you don't have uch to build an economy on. Same goes for the Maratha's.

I don't agree with that. If you concentrate on farms and farm research you will have money rolling in. Also upgrade your roads ASAP as this will boost trade and speed up your armies movement. Also, don't forget to start trading with as many factions ASAP - the preference is for not the factions that you will be gong to war with soon (Poland-Lithuania and Austria).

You are a little bit vulnerable with this approach but the surrounding factions all appear to want to fight amongst themselves.

Agreed with your hybrid theory. In my opinion, you're ruining the game when you paint the world your color.

With Prussia I first go for some provinces such as Saxony and Westprussia, if Austria attacks for Slesia or Moravia/Bohemia. Then I try to get some important military techs as fire by rank and the last type of the bayonett(don't know the english name)...also some of the first enlightement technoligies like Empirism etc...Then I go for the other German States and maybe Poland if the decide to attack me.
