was looking for these videos after I saw the parade last night on BBC, thanx dude.

20 millions of Russians died in that war, almost every family lost its members. Thats why it is so important for Russians.

Wouldn't at least some of them have been shot by their allies for retreating? I know fully that Russia only resisted Germany because of forcing its people to fight or die anyway but it feels odd to celebrate when the nation itself probably caused quite a few of those deaths.

Their not celebrating Stalin's atrocities, but the spirit of the Soviet people, their bravery and the ultimate victory over evil.

I'm not sure how the Russians "celebrate" this day, but if we assume that they pay respect to the dead, that kinda makes sense. After all, it was like... 2 million Russians that died durring WW2 or so.

EDIT: 2 million times ten, apparently. Also, ninja'd.

Its celebration of vicotry over Nazi invaders who killed 20 millions of Russians.

At least Russia is keeping the Eastern Bloc kitsch alive. Though I wonder where the war bears are in this parade. Or they could at least build an aquarium tank for the attack squids.

Lets be honest, the massive military parade that gets larger with every year has more intentions than simply "honoring the dead".

Are you implying that Russia is attempting to intimidate the rest of the world by making a display of it's military power?

    That is absurd!

Its not only honoring the dead, its about vicotory in one of the most bloody wars in history. And military parades are simply awesome, you can't deny that!

actually its been held since the end of WW2 on the same day every year. Sometimes with less military sometimes with more and it is about remembering those that lost their lives in WW2.

No it don't, Estlander (it don't get bigger every year). And it's a refreshing change, now parade is a huge event, like in Soviet times.

I saw it on CNN, looked pretty cool.

One thing I did find funny is how they covered up Lenin's Mausoleum.
I guess they are a little embarrassed by that?
I've heard that in the Soviet era the political/military elite used to sit on top of the Mausoleum during the parade, and that the people referred to this as "a group of old guys on top of a dead guy".
