    Default War stories

ok guys, I have made this thread to post war stories of your campaigns. So basiclly, this thread is meant to share your recent events in your campaigns and get comments on those war stories, and possiblly a little advice if the war story puts you in a bad situation

okay well here is my first war story: Faction: Isengard
    Enemy: Rohan
    Situation: Bad

Ok so again im Isengard, im doing fairlly well, I was pressing deep into eriador, when out of nowhere, Rohan invades my lands with three full stack armies, two attacking Foldburg, and one Isengard. Well at Foldburg, my best general was making a valliant defence, this guy has been through so much , that I actually felt a bit of anger at Computerized soilders when he died defending the town square. Ok so Foldburg is down, not good, next up to defend is Isengard. Well since my faction leader was there, my troops preformed wonderfully, and I onlly lost 180 men, opposed to there 2800. So I have at least defended my capital. Just as I am forming an army for a counter attack, as well as sending an army that was formerlly in Eriador to support the counter attack, Rohan pumps out another 2 full stack armies to counter mine!!!!!!!!!! I believe this is the downfall of Isengard, but hopefully I can hold out and destroy Rohan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heh... Might as well share a bit of my story.

I am Isengrad, cranked up all the way: VH/VH.
Initially, I go for the careful expansion and economic buildup, without aggravating any neighbors, attempt to establish some basic diplomatic relationships with all the surrounding territories.
While my main army was taking a rebel settlement on the seashore(far away, in other words) I get attacked from north... by bloody orcs of the misty mountains!
I scramble quickly and put together a large force of raiders and send them off to kick the upstarts out of my territory.
Another bloody army shows up from the west, and takes Fangorn from me! Since my new army is rather busy in the north, I have to scramble my main army from the opposite end of my lands. I manage to push the orcs from both settlements, and deal with the initial counterattack... Now Sauron is mad at ME for defendng my own territory from my so-called comrades! I swear, if not for the Moria's garrison script, I would bury those buggers in their own hole.
And while I'm dealing with this mess, Eriador and Rohan secured an alliance.
I have a gnawing feeling that I am about to be plunged into a serious mess...
On the bright side, it is turn 47, and if I recall correctly, new units are going to be avaliable soon. Hopefully with stronger units I can to push Orcs out of Moria and have some peace for a while. We shall see...

Ok, Eriador, VH/VH (don't remember, but pretty much reflex to set that now) around turn seventy, and King Aragorn the Mean has been besieging Isengard for about seven turns. He has 900 of his bravest men, with Eriador scouts, bree riders, mounted rangers and even ballista to nail the stake right into the beast's heart. The King also has two brave generals in his retinue to see Eriador's triumph and witness the birth of Arnor. Not that they will just sit back, they are soldiers, and there is work to be done! Behind the walls of the citadel the uruk legions have been reduced to around 2000, but just before they think of parleying for peace, a great horde looms in behind them, 2500 strong! The King, being an experienced campaigner knows that he is in no place for a field battle; a keep before him, angry blades at his back, he will be cut down and besides, in terms of strength he is undone by 2 to 5! Leading his brave band and repeatedly swearing that this is no retreat, only withdrawal to a better place to fight, he leads them deeper into the ring of mountains north of Isengard, deep into the clefts and ravines at the base of the Misty Mountains. No terrain for cavalry, but no matter, the numbers of his enemies dictate that with such poor odds, he must reduce the size of his front, this is the place the last King of the West (Gondor having fallen and Rohan not being far behind) must stand!

At the opening of the Battle of the Gap of Rohan, the King placed his ballista ahead of his archers, the Bree riders were ahead of the pass, hidden in a clump of trees, while Aragorn II and his retinue of other chieftains took the left flank, out in the open and on a plateau, to draw the eye of the enemy to that flank first. As the enemy approached the archers focused on the wargs and the formidable uruk pikemen. It was vital to remove the most threatening apparatus of the uruk horde, before the garrison of Isengard could roll in and smash Aragorn's lines. Just as the snaga leaped into the front line, Aragorn saw his chance to win an easy victory. The uruk general, perhaps in his disdain for his footmen, was pulling away from his main force, surrounded by his bodyguard. Silently signalling for the bree riders and generals to seize the enemy's flanks, Aragorn led his grey company slowly away and ahead, to better charge the Uruk. just before he made it, the foolish man-orc swept into the flank of his generals, entangling his own men and putting himself at risk. Aragorn led the charge, and very soon, one of his men lodged a hand axe into the warchief's head. The result was instant. The force of mostly snaga and raiders, with no more orders or encouragement and trapped on three sides, took their chances and broke. The stream of running orcs led into the garrison of Orthanc, causing great fear and chaos. The angry Northmen on great grey mares, both splattered with black gore and with faces pale with anger, only made their minds up sooner. Both Orc armies were wiped out, their leaders killed and their grunts torn apart.
But at a great cost. The company of 900 had been ground to 500, and both of the brave young men who marched with the King that morning had men killed, men who had been with Elessar when he was still a chieftain of a forsaken band. For the victory he had won, it didn't seem a fair price. That was the last battle the king fought, another would have to take the tower itself but by his victory Aragorn had broken Saruman's forces, Arnor was once more!
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

Thought i'd just say bout an awesome battle i just had

I was Harad (with bout 10 unit cards) and had my allies Mordor (full stack) on an invasion with minis tirith cause of garrison script gondor also had full stack and sallied out to my army which they completely obliterated part from 17 of my general and a bit of 4 units of archers.

Longest battle i've ever had i tink it lasted from 1 hour and 30 mins - 2 hours (may have just seemed longer cause of crap eurovision being on)

After an awesome battle we managed not take minis tirith and i'm just about to find out whether i or mordor get it.

ok mine! rohan. the gloriouse king theoden is leading a campainging army deep into isenguard teritory. dunland awaits, undefended so he decides to beseige it. soon the whole village is up in arms, a tretary he hadnt counted on. a huge battle ensues with about 2000 dunderligers and urkhai against the small 700 strong cavaly unit. the battle is won but the troops took heavy losses (now down to 500) so they decide to rest and resuply. he also sends out runners to request reienrcemens from edoras and the hornburg. this however turns out to be his biggest mistake so far. soon he finds himself surounded and trapeed in the town. supplies are running low and with no infantry to amn the wals th close streets will make it imposible to use his cavalry efectively. many weeks pass. the men are grwing weaker and with no sign o reenforcements he decides he must risk everything. another masive battle ensues and he barely scrapes another victory. but where to go? he had paid deary for htis setlement and was loath to looseit so soon. he quickly trained a local millitia and headed onwards towards byig while the enemy was reeling. his renforcement army where also making their way towards dunland. bu so was one massive army of urakhai. 3500 sstrong and bristling wit pikes a plenty. the maraudering band soon reaches dunland and beseiges it. lord theoded knows he must hold it and orders his men to tun back. in one last heoic battle he faces the urakhai army. his horse archers wreak havok on the menemy line and he used hit and run tactics to destro the enemy skirmishes sent to deal with them. he proceds to pick apart the enemy battle line with a series o downhill charges. he destroy mos of hte enemy army however he now faces the urukhai he was f=drading. th pikemen. his exhauseted men, now numbering around 200, cimb the hill one last time and go crashing into he enemy pikes. he sends unit round the rear and soon they are surrounded however the urakhi hold firm and turn to face them. with no energy left to withdraw and charge again they fight to the end and all of rohans great generas perish t the final few urukhai. the enemy force was obliterated but thoden, grimbold, erkenband and 'forgot name sorry' lie dead upon the feild. the mightyest generals lost at once. the millitia at dunland is soon defeated too. will the new army being raised by the new king be able to reunite the land o rohan?

I just had two pretty epic battles in my early Mordor campaign... and i thought i'd share them with the community. Hope you enjoy!

At first it seemed like a simple, quick conquest for the Witch-King. He led his army of 2000 orcs into the general direction of Cair Andros, whom was at the time rebel-controlled. By the time their chubby legs carried them there, though, it was already in Gondor's control.

Undaunted, and confident in his 9 command stars holding his soldiers from running away, he laid siege to the fortress. A fortress manned by 1400 battle-hardened men. I was forced to assault it next turn as another force of Gondorians was disturbingly close with clearly ill intentions.
And so the assault began! Siege towers slowly rolled towards the walls, with little ugly orcs climbing them up to get on the walls and get slaugh... er, win the day. Archers from both sides were showering their opponents with a seemingly endless stream of arrows. Suicide bombers sent to break through the main gate were being cooked alive by that god-damn burning oil >.>
Apparently unnoticed by the foolish Gondorians, a party of orc someunits managed to sneak to the side of the wall with a couple of ladders... encountering no resistance, they happily moved off the wall to find something to stab... and were promptly trampled by Milion and his bodyguards. Oh well, t'was a good try.
At the front, orcs were finally gaining and upper hand and pushing their enemies back off, except for the main gate where spearmen and ARCHERS were apparently superior in melee... sigh.
The Witch-King of Angmar finally joined the battle by charging inside the city, running all the way around the skirmish and charging the archers from behind, and slaughtered literally every single one of them. Yeah baby, that's the way to do it! Breaking through to the spearmen and smashing their puny formation, he nearly single-handedly won the battle for Cair Andros' gate.

Then came the moment of truth, as the only still-standing enemies were waiting at the plaza, readying themselves for death. Being the BRILLIANT strategist i am, i grouped all my infantry, including archers, and right-clicked the enemy general. The orcs came howling in and held the enemy in place while my awesome general did his rape-from-behind trick again. And they fell for it again

The battle was won and the enemies were all dead, except for one man who was running around the city wildly and screaming "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES" with the voice of many men (literally, lol. I like how the sound's the same wether there's one survivor or 50 of them in the unit). The epic siege came to an end, and the orcish army had lost 1300 soldiers >.> but they cheered themselves up by making jokes about people saying "one man is worth 3 orcs".

    THE END

I had another siege right after that, but this time being a defender, with my poor survivors against 1000 new Gondorians... due to a bug they did not use their ram at all and didn't use Fountain Guards or Cavalry, so i scored a heroic win

Hope you enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed playing and writing it

Kinda bored so i'll write up the second battle i mentioned previously

Basically i had some 800 ugly soldiers left after the massacre that was the first fight... and 1 turn after the fight i was besieged by another force of Gondor. Can't recall how many were there but they had more soldiers than i did and had goddamn Citadel Guards and FOUNTAIN GUARDS! i thought "oh , there goes my awesome leader". But as it turned out, no! The battle was not to be lost.

Gondorians brought 2 towers, 2 sets of ladders and a couple of battering rams. I set up what remained of my soldiers on the walls and in front of the gate and waited patiently as my Scouts rained pointy sticks upon the enemy army! Finally the towers & ladders reached the wall and the fight begun. My brave orcs managed to stop their enemies from advancing on all wall-parts, even though Gondorians sent nearly all of their troops to break my resistance on the right part of the wall. The fight rages on...

There's also that nasty ram that's coming up to hit my gates. I put a couple of units in front of the gate and forget about it. At some point, while going from one wall to another, i decided to see whats going on there as there was no message about the gate going down... i see the gate is opened. Something's wro... IS THAT MY ING WITCH-KING CHARGING OUT?!?!

It was . Apparently my general decided to stop ing around and just charged the hell out of the unit carring the ram. Poor humans were broken and routing by the time i managed to get hold of my unit. I hastily retreated the crazy nazgul back to my castle and put him behind the infantry line again, waiting for another militia to come up with a ram again. But no. Nobody came to bang the gates. The Fountain Guards were standing back with the two units of Bodyguards. Allright...

It was then that i got a nasty surprise. The single unit of Citadel Guards came through the tower and started literally slaughtering my orcs. By the time they slaughtered some 80 orcs they had 2 losses. Mercilessly plowing through my infantry, they were slowly advancing towards the door. Oops... time to use our advantage and overwhelm them with the numbers of our troops. I made my orcs run down the wall and stand their ground below the wall. Citadel Guards, naturally, fell for it and followed down to meet my orcs, this time in a wider space.

But they still owned. They killed another 50 or so orcs and only lost a few men again. This is getting bad... wait! Let's see if they fall for the rape-from-behind thing again I quickly had the Witch-King run around the alley and charge them humans' asses down. And they trampled them, with a single charge inflicting more damage than my orcs did for some 6 minutes of melee. Sigh.

The Citadel Guard's numbers dropped from 60-something to 37 immediately. But they began to counter my cavalry and the bodyguards began to fall. I quickly had them run back and charge again when those fools turned their backs on us again. And guess what... it worked once again will they never learn?

They were routing & dead soon enough. The walls belonged to Mordor once more. But what of our favorite FGs?

All that remained of the enemy army was a single unit of militia archers, one unit of Fountain Guards, and two units of general bodyguards. "Oh man... if they charge through the gate, we're screwed", i said to myself. And indeed, the infantry marched towards the castle slowly. The Fountain Guards were apparently heading towards the siege tower, and the militias carried another battering ram. So i decided to pull the charge-out trick again and massacred the militias. They routed and i returned to the citadel. Halfway back, the archers changed their minds and picked up the ram again. So i charged out AGAIN. This time i made them all bite the dust, just in case.

And here comes the battle-saving bug! The Fountain Guards apparently didn't want to fight all alone and retreated to the cavalry. Being too proud to pick up a ram, they just stood there. And they did so until the battle timer ran out. Loosers! Ha ha! Hail to the Witch-King, baby if it wasn't for his reckless charge, i probably wouldn't be able to kill their remaining troops, should they come through the gate.

    TNE END!

why not give it a shot?

my diff is VH/VH, otherwise its no challenge at all.

ok, so i was playing as the all-knowingful High elves. it was around turn 20, and a full host had left Imladris led by Elrond to take over Gram. i like to take my time with the elves, since any garrison duties will quickly diminish your small force, but whatever. so i move north and after 5 turns, and a practically nonexistent garrison, i finally attack Gram, only to be ambushed by some 500 orcs. the battle ensues, and the orc ambushers were properly disposed of, with me suffering the rather high casualty count of 50 elves, and they losing their whole army. undaunted, i keep pushing north, and finally besiege Gram. then after 3 turns siege, about 2 full armies of filthy goblins support an attack by the 1100 strong Gram garrison (garrison script is so gay) so in total, the orcs had about 5500 orcs vs my brave force of 1000 elves, which consisted of 12 elven infantry, 1 general, and the rest mere light elven archers, with the exception of 1 elven archer, who wasnt light.

before battle was joined, i lined my army the way i have since the year 2001, one line of infantry, second line of archers, and all my cavalry (34 total) to the very right flank of my force.

    .....
    .....

    ---------------
    ********

lines are infantry, asterisks are archers and cav are dots. my cav is actually farther north.

i begin the battle, and send my general to the enemy's rear immediately at start, to throw off the AI and keep the enemy under immediate pressure. the orcs march forward in a quite disciplined rank formation, and soon they send their snaga skirmishers to harrass my front line infantry. by about this time the 2 other armies have already appeared far to my left flank, so i knew i had to beat this army fast, then turn on the weaker host of Gram, then finally defeat the third force. my archers ignore firing onto the snagas, and start shooting huge volleys towards the orc bodyguards advancing just behind the enemy rear. my General, Carpe Dieming (seizing the day), launches a charge into the orc commander's left flank (always attack generals from the left, since that's where the enemy general is always located) and swiftly a lance pierces the orc chieftain's chest. the orcs soon take notice and become shaken. my archers launch one final volley into the goblin ranks and the infantry advance. some snagas get caught in the fighting and flee, and after a short lasting battle the enemy army flees, while my brave general cuts down 3/4 of the fleeing forces.

so now, one of the big armies has been defeated, but 2 more armies are coming, and i have little time to order my infantry to gather their ranks again. judging the situation, i commanded my forces to run swiftly towards the smaller host, 1100 orcs strong, and line up. my archers manage to get 2 volleys into the enemy just before battle is joined. the melee is ferocious, and though pretty evened up i was slowly winning, but speed was a factor for me, as i knew that if the other last host (which was closing fast on my rear flank) charged my rear it would all end. i order my archers to split up and move behind the enemy's ranks, all engaged in melee with my infantry, and it looked like this:

    ****
    / **** /
    / /
    / /
    ++++++++++
    -------------

/ are my archers, + are enemy orcs, * are my general's cav, and - is my infantry.

the archers charge the rear, and my general charges the enemy general's rear, who was but a minor chieftain and fell quickly. the ensuing wave of despair sent the orcs packing, but most of them, trapped, fought to the death, knowing that no prisoners would be taken on either side (elven flesh is particularly tasty, so i've heard).

so now, about 750 elves were alive, and most worrying of all, most of them were archers, and my infantry was now very tired, although some were exhausted outright.

soon after only about 100 orcs were fleeing the battle, the enemy's front ranks reached my infantry. i sent all my forces forward as a big mass, and now relied on my elves's skill to win me the day. the enemy forces' snaga skirmishers bombarded my elves constantly, and didnt care that many of their own orcs fell to their unruly volleys. my general knew that charging 300 snagas would only mean his death, led 3 charges with his 30 remaining bodyguards right against the enemy's flanks, each time causing many kills, and quickly withdrew to re-charge again. the situation looks like this:

    +++++ **
    ++++++ {------ ** (cavalry charge)
    /+--+--+/ **
    / +-+ / **
    /////

    - are elven infantry, / are my archers, + enemy orcs, * my general with 30 bodyguards remaining.

after the third charge into the enemy's thinned ranks, they broke, and finally the battleline stabilized a bit more. the enemy, unfazed, sent their Snagas to fight in melee, and though they almost broke my ranks of shaken elven warriors, the enemy general died in the thick of the fighting to a random elven dagger. panic rose through the enemy ranks, and a final charge from my general finally broke the enemy. my army, too tired to chase, left the job to my bodyguard, who cut down over 500 orcs during their disorganized retreat.

the aftermath: 350 elves lost, pretty evenly between infantry and archers.

orc casualties totalled 5250, and over 1000 prisoners (all executed of course), Gram was taken, and Carn Dum was taken by a small dwarven force (they were my allies, and still are)

pretty epic win. btw, the weather was clear, and it was on a slope.

    Rohan: VH/VH

I sat and waited to let my econ build b4 the fights kicked off. Then an invasion called on Edoras.

So I took my main army stuck it in Edoras and waited. Isengard in them mean time as well as crusading also tried to take my settlements that border them. I raised a small army of four units of horse archers to thin out their ranks before they reached my settlements. Ambushed loads of them but I got fed up eventually so got together 3 basic axe units and two eorlingas lancers to join my horse archers and decided to take out Isengard (the citadel).

They had an army at the crossing point of the river infront of isengard mostly snagas to simply charged with my general and lancers mashed them up and rolled on.

I had beseiged Isengard with this army (having forgotten about the garrison script ) but carried on regardless hoping for them to sally and at least grind them down a lot.

Isengard then brought back an army to attack me.

I lined my troops up on the top of a slope with cliffs protecting one flank and left my cav out in the field. My lancers and general cool as a cucumber in the centre waiting to charge and the horse archers on the flanks to pepper the enemy. The first army was smaller (2009) than the garrison and was routed fairly quickly then the garrison turned up (4592)!

This required more tactics.....CHARGE!!!!!! I used my lancers to charge into the ranged units and routed them while the cav archers rode round the flanks and ran then down. i kept charging in with my general as they advanced up the slope and to distract them feinted charges with my cav archers! after lots of charges I sent in my axe men to hold the orcs in place and charge them in the rear but the general was killed in a charge and soon the whole Isengard army was routing

I lost 82 men (a lot were healed ) and killed 3519 and took 2751 prisoners. All for the axe heh heh heh

I have had many large bridge battles against Mordor, the largest was a battle of roughly 2800 gondorians versus 10500 orcs in two full stacks and their e osgilliath garrison. Basically they walked across the bridge and had 10 stacks worth of arrows fired into them by my archer militia stationed on the small hill, watching thousands of arrows slam into their tightly packed clump of units was satisfying as always. Game began to get laggy and had to zoom out, probably lasted for 20 minutes. Can't see half of the bridge completely submerged in dead orcs... a few remnants of my militia swordsmen remain looking heroic with bloody banners and armour, wish I had screencapped

    Default What a battle.

Playing Gondor H/H (still learning - next game will be VH/VH)

I had the Mordor faction’s last city under siege by three full stack armies. The city, Dale, had the faction leader and a full stack army including some good troll units. Another full stack of Mordorians that had been going after the Lonely Mountain turned and moved next to me. Then the city garrison attacked.

In the match up, I had three full stack armies versus one coming out of the city and another entering from the North-East.

One of my reinforcement armies came in next to the Mordor reinforcements and they started a running battle as the Mordor reinforcements tried to get to me. My army in this running fight lost at least 50%. Only a few of the Mordor units made it to my flank to attack me.

The city garrison attacked out and ALMOST overwhelmed the army I was commanding. I managed to stop them and force them back just as the few Mordor reinforcement units hit my flank. I turned just enough units to face them and threw the rest against the retiring city garrison. At this point my third army made contact with the Mordor reinforcements, who promptly collapsed. All three of my armies pursued the two Mordor forces through their gates and into the center of town.

Five full stack armies in one battle … AND IT RAN WELL. Man!! I love this game! I LOVE this Mod!!!
