French President Nicolas Sarkozy paid a “special homage” to soldiers from former French colonies who fought alongside the French army in World War II, during a speech commemorating Victory in Europe day.

Speaking from a beach in the southern town of Sainte-Maxime, he recalled the African troops who disembarked there and fought with American and French troops, saying that “they fought for France as if they were fighting for their own country. They spared no drop of blood or sweat. France will never forget their sacrifice,” he said.

From June 1940 to May 1945, 55,000 Algerians, Moroccan and Tunisian combatants were killed in combat alongside allied forces.

Meh, occupation of Germany and Esatern Europe (except for Poland) by USSR was compeletly justified.
