    Default Your economic background

It seems alot of people here have economic backgrounds. So what is your background and persuasion?

I do not have an economic background in the traditional sense beyond my own readings of Keynes, Marx & Engels, Malthus and Mill. My own persuasion is that of socialism because I feel the markets looking only for profits have created an unhealthy environment of collaboration and collusion that is abondoning the little guy. A government seems to fix that because they are reliant on our vote.

In undergrad I did both the theoretical and applied versions of an econ degree and a math minor then went on to get a graduate degree. I'll probably go back to finish up the math degree one of these days soon.

Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

None besides a crap high school economics course. I've grown to favor the Austrian school of economics.

Self taught. From online articles, online videos, and books. I became interested in politics a couple of months ago and decided I should become well read in economics if my political convictions were to be valid. I would have never imagined it would lead me to support libertarianism and in fact I didn't even know the term a year ago. I'm glad that economics and the interest in liberty that came with it steered me away from becoming your typical ignorant lefty liberal youth.

Here's two good sites I use ALOT for work. The first one is an all in one. Really good for data and stats although it's raw. It also has teaching resources, blogs, dictionaries, everything you'd really need. The second one is access to all US bills proposed and passed, has impact studies that go along with them, good summaries and actual text if you are brave enough to venture that far and see why nothing ever good comes out of DC. Should help you out alot.

I've studied economics some, but I don't have a degree in it. I'm a strong supporter of Austrian economics, though.

Usually the early levels of econ are really nothing more than introductory and shouldn't require any math beyond adding and subtracting.

Normally, I would agree with you.

However, it depends on the school and the professor. It was a sophomore-level course and the prof told the class on the first day that if they couldn't do calculus, they would fail the course.

Minor in Economics. Unlike most here, it seems, I tend to approach economics from a mathematical standpoint. My beliefs should be self evident by now.

I'm glad that economics and the interest in liberty that came with it steered me away from becoming your typical ignorant lefty liberal youth.
The youth (that includes me) tends to more extreme in general. For example, the youth disproportionally supported Ron Paul (granted, his support is still trivial), the extremist on the deregulation side.

Micro labor, I tried diving into labor econ once with an OLS looking for wage descrepancies between males and females. One of my first econometric modelling attempts and boy howdy did I ever screw that one up. Messing up the little things like differences between employed, unemployed and labor participation. Never did go back to it beyond some dabbling in the theoretical world.
