Default Rupert Murdoch: “Internet Will Soon Be Over”

illionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch gave a strange response when asked about plans for mainstream news websites to charge for content, declaring, “The current days of the internet will soon be over.”

He was making reference to the fact that corporate media websites cannot continue to survive under their current failing business model.

The establishment media is dying and advertising revenue has plummeted as people turn to blogs and the alternative media for their news in an environment of corporate lies and spin.

This has forced sectors of the corporate media to charge the dwindling number of loyal readers they have left for news content, a practice which is set to become widespread according to Murdoch. This will only send more people over to the alternative media as the old organs of de facto state-controlled propaganda wither and die.

“Asked whether he envisaged fees at his British papers such as the Times, the Sunday Times, the Sun and the News of the World, (Murdoch) replied: “We’re absolutely looking at that,” reports the Guardian. “Taking questions on a conference call with reporters and analysts, he said that moves could begin “within the next 12 months‚” adding: “The current days of the internet will soon be over.”

I'm into internet marketing myself, and I laugh all the time at those stupid "old media" companies who can't even make a profit with all those visitors they get.
    What a bunch of retards.

    No it can't.

They can't even stop piracy, let alone censor the interwebs.

So Mr Murdoch how do you assume to end the net.

Make Mr Hannity and Mr O'Reilly attack it daily by calling near enough every site Bastions of Secular progressive Liberals who want to destroy America by teaming up with Paedophiles, Commies and Islamofacists undermining America's youth.

Seriously could it actually be that people are moving to blogs instead of news sites because the blogs tell things people want to hear for better or worse.

    .
i think what he's essentially saying, is that the current business model isnt working, so the net as we know it will change.

major media sources such as cnn, bbc, fox etc etc have been some of the most visited websites in history in their time, but they are not making money. if any one of these major sites manages to become subscription only it will be a signal to the others that it might work. clicks do not = $$ for 90% of companies.

but the truth is, that unless you're google, advertising on the web just doesnt pull in cash like it was hoped to. this does have impacts on how we use the internet, as some of these media sources are linked closely with service providers.

so, he's saying the way we use the web over the last 10 years is going to end soon, as media companies remodel themselves to match current surfing trends. the end of the traditional newspaper is nigh. unfortunately, this will also mean its going to be more and more difficult to decipher what's real news and whats marketing...

especially when the news companies start leaving updates on your twitter page target at your political viewpoint...

So you are the one I can blame for all the spam in the world.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

This thread title isnt sensationalist at all. All I'm getting out of this article is the big corporate websites are in trouble and might shut down. While this might prove irritating for people it hardly means the internet will disappear into a black hole.

If they turn on the Large Hadron Collider:
Or the large Hardon Collider. Consistent legislation and business efforts towards making the Internet a wholly privatized and restricted space, that would give him a hardon.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

The internet as we know it will be over, many people are scrapping mainstream sources and turning to alternatives, we cant have that now can we, afterall if you control all media, you control public opinion.

No doubt governments will get there claws on the internet sooner or later, what excuse they use is up in the air, whether it to combat child porn, terrorism, copyright laws, who knows but they will keep trying, more than likeley succeed.
