    Default Launcher Problems

Before you start attacking me i've played this mod a lot after i downloaded the false-virus fix. That being said I'm now getting another virus alert with the new launcher. My last scan deleted the launcher and the shortcut. I just tried to download the launcher again and immediately a "virus alert" came up

I think it would be helpful if people just started to add what anti virus software they are using. I still have yet to experience this problem with Trend Micro, ever.

If you just let your anti virus software delete whatever without consulting you, that's your number 1 problem.

    Here is some good info:

    Hi,

    No, I don't think It's a virus.

My scanner (a2 free) has found the exe installation is a trojan because It contains a launcher without company's name.

Then, my decision has been : NO to delete this file.

Some scanners (like a2) are very sensible but the final decision is taken by you.

    That's all !!

My current anti virus, Norton 360 2.0 says : It's OK, no virus, no trojan.

    So, I'm quiet.

Have fun with this great mod !

    :
A recent AVG anti-virus update has flagged this as well.
Any chance of a new launcher, or a list of the files that need to be moved (then I can do it myself).

If you are comfortable with your AV software, just add it to the exceptions list. When i say comfortable, meaning you understand how it works, and such. Don't go in and change settings if you are not sure what's going on.

That's not directed soley at you, but at everyone else too.

Does AVG also flag the false positive fix version?

Hi, I have AVG and the answer is yes. As soon as you download the false positive fix version AVG sends it directly to the virus vault. It says it's a "Trojan horse Dropper.Agent.MOI". I was able to restore the false positive fix version from the virus vault to a folder on my desktop. I then replaced the 3.3 exe with the fix exe, but it didn't work for me at all. As far as the 3.3 exe, it works for me, but i have to turn AVG off or it will flag it as a "Trojan horse BackDoor.SmallX.VX". As much as I like your mod, I feel a little uneasy about having to turn my AV off to play it. I tried to add both the 3.3 exe and the fix to the exception list, but AVG wouldn't allow it. If it thinks the file is suspect yes you can add it to the list but no if it believes it to be a virus. Has anyone had any luck using the false positive fix? @ Sicilian Vespers - Could you download the fix and see if your AV flags it? Thank you.

There are two ways to fix this.

    1) Inform your AV provider that it is not a virus.

    2) Add the exception, so the AV ignores it, and reapply the fix.

What's the problem to disable the AV for the time when you play? You know an AV program is usually senseful for filtering e-mails or of course dl'd exe's and any files you download, if you are online, or just to scan your system.
Is it necessary to be online when you play ... no, only if you play MP, and anyway for the time you are online you should have a firewall active. In case of MP, you don't need an AV active, but the firewall.

Well, (did you read the entire post) I did that, though I've never had to do that with any other mod ever. Again, has anyone had any luck using the false positive fix? I uninstalled the mod completely days ago and this morning I did a full system scan with AVG and it found and healed 8 "Trojan horse BackDoor.SmallX.VX". So your advice is to turn the AV off to play a mod downloaded from the internet. Hmm, not a very safe practice.

Yes, I now have the exact same Trojan (Backdoor.SmallX.VX) after a scan - please sort out this launcher, The Vespers is a tremendous mod but AVG will not me run the launcher.
In the meantime I have created a bat file to launch it, but this restricts me to the early period.

    I concur.

AVG flagged mine, dragged it into the virus vault..
That was with the fix... MY PC/AVG obviously doesn't like 3.3...

I have downloaded many times and I never have once gotten a Trojan. Just to prove my point I did it again while writing this post.

Dismiss my information if that is to your purpose but again, I still have yet to get trojans from downloading the same file as everyone else.

    Edit:
In hindsight I should have noted that the downloaded, false positive file provided, works fine on my system too. Again, no trojans when downloading or running it. Every exe works 100%.

I'm glad that you are having no issues with this Mattress, but others clearly are. There is obviously a problem with both launchers, even if it is (or isn't) a phantom issue. It would be best to have another launcher methinks.

You are missing the point that other AV software are not flagging and only AVG is. I looked it up and my opinions on it are my own. However, if AVG is the only one flagging it, it's AVG, not the launcher man. Really this is turning into a technical debate over the internet and I don't ever see an outcome where I could convince you other that what you think, so with that I won't offer anymore help with this issue. Good luck.

First, have you read all the posts in this page? It's clearly not only AVG.
However, this so called "virus" is harmless.

I hope you are not being serious about reading everything. That goes without saying.

AVG is the only one throwing the .exe into the "virus vault" or removing it completely from everyone's computer. Not everyone elses has been doing that, who has had a different type of anti virus, I've gone out of my way to assist via PM to allow to TRY and play the game. The other types have either done two things, ignore it, or allowed people to add it to the exceptions list. AVG seems as though it is the only one who will not do that. There have been tons of threads about virus issues with this mod. I don't limit my knowledge to one thread over a topic but just try to help everyone who posts repeat threads or asks the same questions.

Posting in here, I was only trying to help and I really get the impression that people could cares less if it was a virus or not in the launcher, they don't like the launcher and dont' care for a fix other than a new launcher.
