Cool, except Chinese failed the operation.
Strange though, it seems every Communist Asian did not like its Communist neighbour too much; look how Vietnam went into Cambodia and kicked the genocide government's butt.
Really?Cool, except Chinese failed the operation.
IndoChina hardly came under Vietnamese dominance, and Vietnam is still a second rate power in the region. Hardly a major player.

Sons of Queen Dido, Warriors of Libye (EB AAR)

A Carthagian AAR about the life of a Libyan Phoenician soldier in the army of Carthage, giving his own account and personal opinions of the battles and conquests Carthage undertakes.
I just know the epicness will blow your minds!!
Chinese intervention was a bit of a debacle to be fair. They lacked modern equipment and faced tough opposition from tough and experienced Vietnamese regulars. The aim was to relieve pressure upon Cambodia but they failed with their incursion into North Vietnam and were forced into beating a rather hast retreat.
Some good pics though.![]()
This was also during the Red Guard movement. The "better Red than expert" mentality was present even in the military. Soldiers who excelled at any field like marksmanship or demolitions would often find themselves in front of a committee because being too good at something was counter-revolutionary. The officer corps was just as badly affected by prevailing politics as well.
This was posted why?
I mean, is there a point or an argument being made?
Classic, you got any more pictures?

Compare this one with India, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand.I hardly call that "2nd rate".
Having a fast growth rate does not mean that the economy is first rate in size.
The aim was never to occupy Vietnam.they failed with their incursion into North Vietnam

So how is a failure in invading "something that was never intended" a failure?Never said it was.
The Sino-Vietnam war is a big even politically but hardly understood. It marks the final blow of the Sino-Soviet split (China formally exiting the traditional Soviet conglomerate), consolidated Deng's position in the military, denied Vietnamese dominance in Indochina and ranks amongst the worst incident that happened in the Communist bloc during the Cold War. Unknown to most people is the fact that China and Russia both have hundreds of thousands of men on their borders during the event of the Sino Vietnam War. You know what bankrupted the Soviet Economy? The nukes and that huge garrison on two fronts.
And incidentally, Sino-US relations got a lot better with this. And so did the pace of modernization. If Vietnam won the war, I would see both Cambodia and Laos being subjugated by the state. But they aren't.

they weren't china's crack troops even at those time. China's best forces were still in the north defending a possible Soviet invasion (legacy of Sino-Soviet split). And to be fair, the whole invasion was commanded by Xu Shiyou...a...pretty crappy commander, rising through the ranks because he was a body guard for Mao.
Have a question about China? Get your answer here.
Like I said, the importance of the front would determine the quality of the commander of that front~~whole invasion was commanded by Xu Shiyou...a...pretty crappy commander, rising through the ranks because he was a body guard for Mao.
The conflict is more of a show case to the US:
China: see, we will beat Vietnam to show you that we're reliable
USSR: NYET!!!
US: Gewwwwwwwd~~~~
China: Now we will also welcome foreign investments and gradual opening up of our isolationist market policies
US: Gewwwwwwwd~~~~ (it will become Nuuuuuuuuuuuhhhh!! in the future due to free trade)
