Re-issue of 1990 book about conception scandalises Australians

A BOOK which teaches children about lesbian mums getting pregnant using sperm donors is being pitched at kids as young as two.
The controversial publication, Where Did I Really Come From?, also features a drawing of two gay men holding a baby in a chapter about surrogacy.



The publisher's marketing spruiks the book, which includes in-depth descriptions of sexual intercourse, as suitable to be read to two-year-olds.


It was being advertised at some Sydney book stores and inside the cover as being part of the New South Wales Attorney General Office's Learn to Include program, the Daily Telegraph reported today.

In a chapter on assisted conception, the book tells children: "Sometimes, a woman really wants to have a baby but she doesn't want to have intercourse with a man.
"Some women want to bring up a baby by themselves, or with another woman, so the baby gets two mums."

agreed, provisionally, I would want to know how graphic the descriptions of sex are (straight or gay) yhat would be the only issue.

no two year old will buy this book, it does mean the parents now have the option, to read the book to him/her.

The story is from the Daily Telegraph, so:

"2 year olds" = 6 year olds
"sex" = reproduction

If someone reads this to them while they're growing up, I wouldn't be too surprised if the kids turn out with a more open mind towards subjects such as homosexuality and adopting.

Yes! lets invade their minds at 4, no scrap that, 2 years old, and bombard them with ideas and concpets they wont be able to grasp and totally confuse the poor sods in the process!

I think the point is that kids from same-sex couples get confused when all they hear about is hetero-sexual parents.
Especially when they grow up in a Christian community where everybody calls them freaks for not having both a mommy and a daddy.

Odds are if you are a gay couple and want to raise a child, its best not to live in a community where they call them freaks.

Common sense and all. Same reason I don't live in a community where everyone calls me 'Cracker'.

BUT back to the book.

This is brilliant!

You take a book that would have gotten NO notice at all, leak details to the press so they cover it, and you will get FAR more orders, even from people opposed who want to use it as a bad example, then you EVER would have if it was just released in some Australian book stores.

BRILLIANT!
