I just noticed that there's a favorite directors thread, but not one for actors. I'm guessing that this is the first topic of this kind; I could be wrong, but I'm not.
I'll post mine later... once I've figured out who my favorites are.

R.I.P. God Save The King (2008-2013)
There's a lot, but to name a few, Steve McQueen, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, Patrick Stewart, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton. There's a lot more.
Clint Eastwood. James Stewart. Bruce Campbell. James Wood. Gregory Peck
Audrey Hepburn. Grace Kelly. Reese Witherspoon. Nicole Kidmen.
Gregory Peck, Jack Nicholson, Jean Gabin, Peter O'Toole, Toshiro Mifune, Al Pacino, Clint Eastwood, Alain Delon...
Catherine Deneuve, Isabella Rossellini, Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich...
And, of course, Angelina Jolie.
Al Pacino, Brad Pitt and Christopher Meloni would be my top 3. Worth mentioning would be Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones, just because they're cool.
Actresses I'm not too sure about, really. Like Rufats above I'd go with Angelina Jolie but more because she's freaking hot and less because she's such a good actress. I mean, she's not bad but she's hardly epic. Mariska Hartigay also deserves a mention but I haven't seen her act in anything other than L&O: SVU, so I'd have to see more of her to cast judgement. But in just that show I think she does a stellar job. Oh, Charlize Theron is also good. Especially after her job in Monster, my respect level for her skyrocketed. She was pretty good in Hancock too.

I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and many things I don’t know anything about. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing.

Hmm, the Angelina Jolie was a joke and had nothing to do with acting![]()
Well I actually quite enjoy movies with her in it. I think if she'd be cast for an emotionally taxing role, she could do it. Not sure why I think that, but I do.
Ah yeah, he's pretty good too. Not among my favourites, but he was absolutely stellar in The Departed. Actually he's pretty good in any role he acts.Originally Posted by Maraud

De Niro, Pacino, Nicholson, Eastwood, Crowe, Norton, Bale and DiCaprio. I'm beginning to like DiCaprio especially, a shame he has a boyish face at times.
Regarding actresses, none really, Weaver and Surandon maybe. But both have made too manyor melodramatic movies imo.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
Robert De Niro, Daniel Day Lewis, Mickey Rourke, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe
I thought that movie was deep when I was like 13. Hugely overrated. Lame and preachy. But she's not bad.
Stringerbell!
Here's a random list of talented actors you guys omitted:
James Woods
Charles Laughton (absolutely brilliant as Henry VIII and Quasimodo)
Emil Jannings (as the Hotel Porter and Mephisto directed by F.W. Murnau)
Montgomery Clift
Haley Joel Osment
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
George C. Scott
Peter Sellers
Gregory Peck
Patrick McGoohan (as number 6 and secret agent John Drake, he makes Jason Statham look like a pansy)
Andre Braugher (as detective Frank Pembleton, the best detective ever on TV... suck it Beltzer)
And I know you guys were having some trouble listing talented contemporary actresses:
Evan Rachel Wood
Heather Donahue (improvised performance in Blair Witch Project)
Melissa Leo (as detective Kay Howard and more recently for her role in Frozen River nominated for an Oscar)
I can't think of any more at the moment but they'll come to me.
Edward Norton ftw, although I heard he isn't very friendly to fans.
Also Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig, Ken Watanabe, Chow Yun Fatt, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Bill Murray, Paul Giamatti, and Brian Cox.
