Are you running Windows Vista? I'm on XP so not quite sure how to fix it but I know vista sometimes blocks apps.

If that's not it, are you able to run other mods using batch files?

Also, please verify your folder structure is correct. In your medieval ii total war\mods folder there should be a folder named Westeros and underneath that folder there should be data, logs, etc and the batch and config files.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Yes, I'm on Vista. the locations were all correct, and I run SV, SS and Third Age, all from batch so i'm sure it isn't any of those reasons I really loved the books and have always wanted to play this mod, even before I had M2 so lets find a way to get me playing :p

Try following the Steam installation instructions:

Steam Users: Download the attached Westeros Steam Install.txt file. Rename the file to .reg instead of .txt. Double click the file to import the settings into your registry. Run the game using the Medieval II Total War launcher instead of the batch file.

Just make sure to launch from the M2TW Launcher instead of batch file.

this may seem like a stupid question, but how do I change the file type with vista?

Go into command prompt and change it? Change file options to show the extension and change it from Windows Explorer? Lots fo ways

"Five had been his brothers. Oswell Whent and Jon Darry. Lewyn Martell, a prince of Dorne. The White Bull, Gerold Hightower. Ser Arthur Dayne, Sword of the Morning. And beside them, crowned in mist and grief with his long hair streaming behind him, rode Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne."

    In Vista...

    1. Windows Key + R
    2. Type cmd & press enter
    3. navigate to where you've got the file...if it's on your desktop just type:
      1. cd Desktop & press enter
    4. type: ren filename.extension filename.newextension & press enter (example: myfile.bib myfile.exe)
    5. Close the command prompt window
    Hope that helps.

    Try this:

    1. Install as directed
    2. Browse to C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Medieval II Total War\mods
    3. Rename one of the Kingdoms campaign folders (Americas, Brittania, Crusades, Teutonic) to something else
    4. Rename the Westeros folder to the name you changed in step 3
    5. Select the name you used from the Launcher

The easy install (regular as I haven't got steam):

    1. Move the ZIP file into an empty directory or create one (I always use c:\install)
    2. Extract all the files there by right clicking and choosing 'extract here'
    3. 'Cut' the new Westeros directory and paste it into the mods directory of Medieval2
    4. Click the batch file to play.

    Note to Vista users:
You might have to add the alluser switch in your cfg file:

    1. Open the cfg file in the westeros directory with Notepad.
    2. Copy paste the following lines into the file at any place, preferably at the end:
    [game]
    allusers = 1
    unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 1
allusers will enable all users of the machine
unlimited_men will enable reinforcements all the time (beware your specs!)

    Hold me...
This worked.. I don't know what was wrong before or why it wasn't working. I should also mention that I moved it to my main copy of M2 with all my other mods on it. Thank you very much I'll rep ya up

Got the same problem as the OP but then I'm on XP using non steam. The batch file opens and then closes itself.. got the loading screen up by renaming it and using the launcher, then it gives me an error...

I installed like this, first MTW2, patched to 1.2 -> 1.3, then kingdoms patched to 1.5, unrarred mod files to the mods directory

Also got another question, the batch file.. should it be in the mods folder i.e on the same layer as the Westeros folder, or inside the Westeros one. Not that it makes a difference for my problemen as both wont work.. just wondering which is the right way on this one

Well anyone got an idea to get this running?

The batch file should be in the Westeros folder.

Are you able to run other mods successfully?

    What error does it give?
