Hard choise, but I ended up choosing the Royalists because Cromwell turned out to be a Tyrant, and as far as I know Charles I was more tolerant of religious minorities in comparison to Cromwell's die hard protestants. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Odd, just had a deja vu...
Anyway, the Parlimentarians. I dont believe in the Divine Right of Kings one bit, and am not a monarchist in anyway.
Having said that Cromwell didnt turn out that great either, but he wasnt the leader of the Parlimentary Cause for the first half of the war (ie when they were loosing...)
...Can I abstain?
Having read a comprehensive (i.e Huge) book on the ECW I came away rather ambivalent... both sides commited questionable war acts (The Royalists can be credited with the first 'war crime') and had good Commanders on both sides e.g Rupert, Hopton, Waller, Fairfax, Cromwell... it's a pity the ECW isn't more popular in popular History as it was an interesting conflict (and suprisingly bloody). My Hometown was Royalist until late in the first war, so I suppose I'll say Royalist.
The Levellers were the side to back

And I drank it strait down.
I would go for the Parlimentarians. But mostly because I really love the Levellers. Great bunch.
Down with kings...
Easy choice. Does that make Cromwell and company saints - nope. But they get my vote.

But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join together at the latter day and cry all 'We died at such a place; some swearing, some crying for surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left.

charles an ineffective ruler who bit off more then he could chew much better then that despot Cromwell who push puritan values on Britain, slaughtered the Irish, banned sports, and worst of all banned plays.

Neither side, but if I had to choose one I'd choose a king who abused his political power rather than a Parliament which wanted to turn England into a puritanical state.

No Cromwell was enemy of the Presbyterians and the Scots.
Between 1640-45 the parliament was strongly ruled by the Presbyterian and conservative majority.
Also the Assembly of the theologists was in the same status and London was a Puritan stronghold.
The only branch of the English state where the sectarians, the baptists, independents and separatists had the majority was the New Model Army.
In 1646-47 with a coup d'etat the Independents conquered the majority in the Parliament and in the Committee Militia.
In the month of the February 1648 began the second phase of the english civil war. This time the Presbyterians fought alongside with the Royalists against the New Model.
As I fancy myself to be a son of honor (), I will follow in the footsteps of my first significant ancestor and stand by the King!
Cromwell being a Puritanical rat-bastard (who is also guilty of attempted genocide and banning some pretty good) counts against him and his cause, too.
Cromwell.
Ireland was exaggerated, it was common practice all over Europe to sack a town if it held out and did not surrender. Most of the harsh laws during Cromwell's era where not of Cromwell's doing but Parliaments, he and his family were avid dancers during the bans. Cromwell is definitely one of the greatest Britons of all time.
IF the Royalist side had won the war, then Britain would most probably turn into an Absolute Monarchy of the French model.
I would say, Royalists to sound nice, but in practice I would have to stand against the King's power.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."
- Flavius Vegetius Renatus (in Epitoma Rei Militari, ca. 390)
