Default [Tutorial] How to customize your naval crew

Customizing your naval crew is similar to the process for land units with one major hitch. Here's how you do it.

    1) Open and extract unit_stats_naval_crew_tables. Add it to your pack. If you want to change the model for all factions, you can probably just edit the model (I haven't tried this--if it doesn't work, follow the other steps and you'll be fine). If you only want change the model for one faction, clone the line for the unit you'd like to edit. In my case, I want to change the model for Denmark's marines, so I clone the euro_marines line. I give the new unit a unique name "danish_marines" and change the model name to my custom model, "marines".

    2) Open and extract unit_stats_naval_crew_to_factions_tables. Add it to your pack. Here's where it gets tricky. This is not the entire table. The Pack File Manager does not read the table correctly. Any attempt to edit and load it as extracted by the PFM will cause ETW to CTD.

Find the faction you want to edit in the left column. The faction name marks the top left corner of a 2x4 crew table. Make sure all 8 cells are there, even if you intend to edit only one. If your faction isn't on the list or only partially on the list, download the table that I've attached and delete the .txt extension. It is the complete table. (You can see the complete table in the file with a hex editor.) Import this table as a .tsv.

    3) Now make the changes you want. In my case, I find Denmark in the left column and search its block for "euro_marine." I replace it with "danish_marines". You need to preserve all 8 cells. You may delete the rest of the table and change the table name, but you must have the entire 2x4 block for your faction or you will get a CTD.

Save your changes, start the game and you'll see your new units onboard!

I'm stumped on an issue. I can't seem to find a way to edit/replace the naval officer on deck. For instance:

    denmark | euro_marine
    euro_seaman | euro_guncrew
    euro_naval_admiral | euro_commodore
    euro_naval_officer1 | euro_flutist

The first one is the marines, second is the gun crew, third is the admiral who is not the officer you see on board most ships. I've tested this out already and replaced the model with something else, it's an actual admiral who spawns on certain ships. Lastly is the flutist, I've also tested this and despite the name "euro_naval_officer1" this is the guy who plays the fife on ships. So where is the the other officer?

That would most likely work, but won't that effect other factions as well? I just want to make changes to two or three factions.

I tried making a new personality but with no way of telling the game to use the new one(afaik), it still uses the old one

You want to do similar to what I did for the marines. Clone the officer you want to edit in battle_peronalities and give it a new name. Change the model to the one you want. Go to unit_stats_naval_crew_to_factions_tables, find your factions, and replace the old officer with the new personality you've created.

I would suggest that euro_commodore is the officer you are after. Commodore is a naval rank isn't it? Commodore Norrington

And I believe that those ARE battle personalities. Create a new one and substitute euro_naval_officer1 with whatever you want. However i suspect euro_commodore is the commander you want.
    Not actually on the moon.

I've been trying to create new entries or use excisting entries in the "unit_stats_naval_crew_to_factions" to replace the other officers with no success. What I'm thinking is editing the personalities and making a default naval officer with a blue coat. It would be accurate enough for the US, England and France, only problem would be the vests and pants. At least in the case of France since I've seen their officers wear red pants.

The flutist entry seems to be hard coded as well, similiar to the land stats where the officer, musician/standard bearer are also hard coded in, afaik. I can make the flutist into an officer even give him an officer personality, but he always has that fife and behaves as such.

    Great Job Erasmus. +rep.

Hmm I tried to do a similar thing for a few ships, but it is annoying how you cannot modify the crew of a single ship.

what I try and do is give the crew of one particular ship Nocks volley gun, but unfortunately As you would be well aware it gives only all the marines volley guns.

    What a pity..

Anyway, great Job And I'll look forward to whatever else you bring out.

im new to modding so what the pack file im should extract this to in the first step and the images you've placed under each step say i have to upgrade to photobucket
I check into small hotel a few kilometers from Kiev. It is late. I am tired. I tell woman at desk I want a room. She tells me room number and give key. "But one more thing comrade; there is one room without number and always lock. Don't even peek in there." I take key and go to room to sleep. Night comes and I hear trickling of water. It comes from the room across. I cannot sleep so I open door. It is coming from room with no number. I pound on door. No response. I look in keyhole. I see nothing except red. Water still trickling. I go down to front desk to complain. "By the way who is in that room?" She look at me and begin to tell story. There was woman in there. Murdered by her husband. Skin all white, except her eyes, which were red. I tell her I don't give a . Stop the water trickling or give me refund. She gave me 100 ruble credit and free breakfast. Such is life in Moscow

Right ; carefull about the gloss_map.dds it is bugged ....you have to remake it , else the Hats remain with a White spot .
I wonder if this unit was at the origine of the Us dragoon , that later have become the famous Blue Coats , ( with the 2 swords crossing ) on their hats
