Default Fighting against the Babylonian Pethallu

Usually these mounted archers inflict huge casualties on my troops. They are a very fast unit, so itīs difficult to catch them with other cavalry or chariots, and they are also too strong. They shoot my cavalry and chariots to pieces until they are able to reach them for close combat.

The only way is to use spearmen or hoplits hunting them. With some luck they leave the actual place of the battle by retreating from the spearmen. Then i have time to win the battle, but the spearmen or cavalry-unit hunting them suffer huge losses at the best, in the worst case they are fleeing.

So how do you deal with them or has anyone a good tactic against them?

Depends who you're playing as. As Persia, I usually hunt the Pethallu down with mounted javelineers (Asabari), before I quickly hire some Pethallu of into my own army - they're very useful in battle.

    I don't, I PLAY as the pethallu

but from experience, your best bet is to use massed archers; the persians in my bab-ilu campaign were far deadlier to my cavalry when they were archers than even asabari.

the asabari make a good diversion to let your archers do their job well though
I haz a culler!! (really, who gives a darn? its totally meaningless, and it doesn't really accurately reflect who I am)

As Egypt, I would never use an army without at least 3 slinger units within it... these would usually do the trick against those damn horse archers... and also to reiterate a previous point, hiring them yourself is always very usefull!.
