I vote for single trolls.
I prefear to see the hero with soldier, i didn't like the superpower heroes in battle for middle-earth(especially in BFME 2!!!), don't make the same thing for medieval!
But the balrog...It can be cool!
Sauron himself.
Where do you get your information and thought process from concerning your erroneous statement that trolls ALWAYS fight on their own because they don't want to hurt their little pinkies!??!If you read Tolkien's RotK, at the battle befroe the Black gate of Mordor, a small horde of Olog-hai are unleashed against the good army, and this horde of trolls' leader or one of its leaders is an Olog-hai Chieftan.
Trolls are uber units but they do die singley and as a unit and therefore aren't super uber units. Single trolls would die too quickly. Same for Mumakils. Mumakils were no where near as big as they were in the movies. Read the books. However, Mumakils just might be OK for a single unit, just depends on how powerful the stats for Mumakils are.
Only single units that would be easily playable would be the Balrog and Sauron, and perhaps the Witch King since he too was very powerful. Perhaps Gandalf could be made a single unit because he was very powerful after being 'born again' as Gandalf the White, and could probably have given Sauron a good fight, since Gandalf the Grey did kill the Balrog in Moria, and Gandalf the Gray was not as powerful as after he became Gandalf the White. Smaug the Dragon would be OK as a single unit, flying or not. Perhaps Treebeard the Ent but the other Ents could operate in groups/units of 2 or 3 Ents. Tom Bombadil is another possibility, and he would be neutral and never leave his province but attack anyone that entered it and he could have a few Huorns/Ents to help him.

Single Mūmakil anyone? Now we can make them the giant beasts they're supposed to be
EDIT: But first we'd need a guy that ask Yeoman very nice how he did it.
Gameplay > tiny little things
and heros for sure... that would be really nice ^^
"Männer der Krieg ist scheisse,
aber er hat nen geilen Sound"
If a single hero is as strong as an olok hai it wouldnt be that unbalanced, and you would still need to consider the worth seeing how the single unit would take up a full unit slot.
And how many casualties can a single person inflict? if its one at a time its cool to watch for sure, but probably not very effective.
I do agree about the ballrog though.
lol, thats good for Sauron, and yes i agree with you guys, trolls should be a single unit
"you are soldiers of Gondor, no matter what comes through that gate you will stand your ground!"
Lonely Units : Gandalf , Witch King ,Nazguls , Balrog , Sauron ,Saruman , Radagast , Alatar , Palando . i Guess they are the only one who can be alone in fight versus a large number of enemy , cause of their great powers . Maybe Galadrielle to ?
and +1 for single troll , but with stats X2 .
please no single heros, exept for balrogs and the big guys, but all the normal "Heros" like aragorn, ect. should be a lot better than they are now, with custom skins, just keep them having a bodyguard unit, just think about it guys, if aragorn was attacked by a calvary unit, and he was a single unit with no bodyguards, he wouldnt kill more than 2 calvary men, you know why? well have you guys ever watched the fighting up close? I do ALL the time, one of my favorite things to do, and when a guy gets overwhelmed by enemies, he keeps getting hit, then staggers, and before hes done staggering, he gets hit again, then staggers again, and this process gos on untill that man is dead, this is EXACTLLY whats going to happen to single man units like Gimil and all them, again I say make the heros really powerfull, but also give them bodyguards to cover there backs, please!?!?!?!!?!?!

Groovy
agree with 99% of the guys who posted before me. no heroes, but a Balrog, Saruon, etc would be very nice
great for demons, trolls, and other big baddies but not so great for heroes (better to do them like in kingdoms, richard lionheart for instance has a custom skin and hero abilities)
Guys, to make a unit worth it's slot it needs to be DAMN powerful. Who's going to use up a slot for a troll that's going to get owned easily by another slot? Trolls would need to be able to launch multiple units and be ALOT thougher. The engine just can't have it.
Balrog could have it (though I doubt we'll ever see a Balrog), Sauron perhaps but IMO the best for this are Mūmakil. Now a unit is already underpowered, but 1 Mūmak is nothing. They should be terrible beasts, like in the movie.
Gameplay > tiny little things
Well then guys, who do you think is going to control a freaking balrog?! even Sauron doesn't have enough power to do such a thing, perhaps only through his ring, which he doesn't have.
Imo only Morgoth could command a beast as terrible as a Balrog, so I'm against implementing a Balrog.. let's keep this mod real.
Well technically Balrogs and Sauron are:
1:The same race, the Ainu
2: On the same side
3: well familiar with eachother, Sauron commanded Balrogs, werewolves, orcs, trolls and whatever beasts Morgoth had in the First Age. While I don't remember Tolkien ever stating specifically that Sauron commanded Balrogs in battle, it's logical assume that he has had many dealings with them in Morgoth's service, and both of these maiar (Sauron and Balrogs are corrupt maiar..as most of us nerds know) are still in the service of Morgoth, even though their Dark Lord is enslaved...for the time being.
I'd like to see a Balrog, guarding Moria, but not leaving it - ever. Would make it a bit... interesting![]()
