    Icon3 [SOLVED] Setting to Ultra

Hey, I've got a nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS and I am unable to set anything to ultra except for the scale. (also the VERY HIGH box is greyed out at the side). Would I need a new card to do that or what?

    Thanks!

Yes. It grays them out because your computer can't handle those settings.
    My System:

    Asus P5Q Mainboard
    Q9450 CPU
    8 gig DDR2 RAM
    Gainward GTX 295
    750W Corsair Power Supply
    24' Samsung Monitor 1920x1200

You can set the preferences file to tell the game you have a higher vram than you actually have, allowing you to play on ultra settings.

    For XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Program files\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

    For Vista
    C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\

    gfx_video_memory 0; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #

set this to the desired amount in bits (1byte = 8bits)

try a high number like 1000000000

Could you please tell me the exact name and the precise location for this file? I don't see a "preferences file" anywhere in the location you mentioned above. I am using Vista.

    thanks.

    Nevermind.

hit start menu, click inside the search thingy just above the bottom and type %appdata% then click on the creative assembly folder, then scripts and take note of the file path so you can find it easily

Nice TheStinger, I didn't know that. However, you should be aware that the game will probably run like a Microsoft Power Point presentation. It's grayed out for a reason.

True, but he might just want Unit Detail to ultra to get the variation and everything else on low/med.

Well there is the reason. That's a low resolution for gaming these days, but if I had my way again I would lower the resolution I play at. Even the best graphics cards can't keep up with the high end resolutions that people play games with.

Lol, I just have a slightly lower monitor than you Laoch, it's an 21" Samsung, which runs at 1600 x 1050.

Also, I think this should be edited to [SOLVED] and stickied, because I just saw someone else asking in the Main Discussion area.

I can vouch for relic's idea of stickying this. I have now ultra settings and can use ultra unit detail smooth.

    Thx again Relic
