    Default RS2 Roadmap

    Things seem to be drifting a bit, which is worrying.

    I feel that in order to remain focussed we need to map out the stages and building blocks that need to be in place before we release RS2. Could we all make an effort to put in this thread the stuff that needs to be done to get there, and cross off once complete. maybe put E for essential and D for desired.

    I'll start by listing some things:



    Campaign map:
    Winter textures (E) - MarcelP will work on these
    Spies and assassin retextures (D) - ?Tone
    Refines coastlines etc - cherryfunk (E)
    Map Blocks and dead ends..path problems (E) - I have fixed many of them, but testing and observation will be necessary. Hopefully Cherryfunk?
    Problems with Towns\cities having no escape routes (E) - same as above. (I'm aiming for four side excape routes to minimize the chances of CTD's, but not always possible)

    Battlemap:
    Finish trees (E) - Tone, gennosuke, Leif (Leif is doing a few bushes)
    Refine some grasses (E) - Tone

    Units:
    Unit cards (E) - Leif - just some minor resizing of a few cards left
    Finish redoing Roman shields (D) - Pacco
    Minor unit glitches: modelling issues etc (E) - Tone

    Music:
    Done (some more will be added but thats just a bonus of a sort. - Apple, Arn, Elendil of Númenor

    Temples:
    Done!

    Buildings:
    New Buildings (D) - progressing, DVK, others doing descriptions or they are done. just need a few more icons

    Balancing:
    Unit stats and costs, refining recruitment (E) - DVK Faridus Tone
    Economic Balanceing (E) - WIP, DVK (it's getting better)
    Done!Victory conditions (0-turn) (E) - apple
    Victory conditions (Modfoldered) (D) - Just some minor tweaks to the 0-turn one. Will do as soon as the economic system is balanced. - apple

    Add to the list please, if you're working on stuff that needs to be in the final release.

    What's the status of traits and ancillaries and scripted rebellions?

    Also, I'd like to have scripted 'missions' that reward the player for taking certain cities, like XGM has (For example in XGM if you're playing the Free Greeks and capture Cyrene, you get an elephant unit). I'll put together a list of 2 or 3 per faction that we might add.

    We need a list being put together of the definitive scripted rebellions

    1) I'm currently doing the Arverni, Boii, Belgae, Gallaecian, and Cimbri leadership trees, but only the Celtic one is really mapped out in any significant manner. The others are in my head. (D)

    2) Researching a lot of topics and subjects for the barbarian trees for the normal buildings, special buildings (like the salt mines), etc... and tie them to historical mentions and evidence with descriptions. (E)

    3) Researching some Boii things for their preview too, but that is more difficult than the others above. (D)

    I think thats it. I still plan to revise certain unit descriptions, but at least for now that, and the Boii preview, are somewhat secondary in importance because of the need for #2 and other buildings to be coded into the game.

    Well the leadership trait systems are still being developed and they are so far looking far far more complex than the Roman one, so if I do end up coding them all it could take me quite a while to get it right. With the scripted rebellions, well we almost have the roman civil war down, I just need the roman legion unit compositions so I can tell HoH what exact units we want in each spawned rebel legion.

    Can it be simplified? My concern is that the more complex a trait system becomes, the more bugs inevitably turn up, and the most testing and debugging is required. Since traits interact with each other, the time required rises tremendously as complexity grows...

    unit descriptions need finishing. Unfortunately exams have rendered me useless untill late June/July.

    What I last gave you was the latest update, it has been pretty quiet on the description front since then. A few more have been done but I will need to add them, which I shall do in the morning (its getting late here in the UK).

    I am going to recruit, beg, borrow steal and\or do these unit descriptions myself in the manner I see fit if something doesn't get moving in this area. ALL of the RS2 units have been in this mod since the first Beta was released in September of last year, and it is totally unsatisfactory that so many of them are still not done. I find it hard to swallow that not a single unit description has been done since the 4th of April. I'm sorry, but this is very frustrating, and I know you people have lives to live and things you have to be about....but at this pace, we're going to be done with this mod next year. Unit descriptions that are missing have been pointed out in the Beta thread, and I assumed (wrongly it would appear) that something was being done about it.

    The upshot is that if I have to do this, then you can pretty much kiss a lot of other things good-bye for a considerable length of time.

    As DVK says, we need to speed up the pace or else this thing really won't be out until next year.

    As I've got exams coming up, I'll be even more unproductive than usual until the middle of June, but after that, i'll do my damnedest to get some Roman unit descriptions out - I'll start with the Auxilia and work from there, i think.

    Im in the same boat as rory, I cannot really do anything untill after June 19th unfortunately. After then I have 2.5 months of free time untill I start university. Most of the ones being pointed out in the beta are already on my list in that thread I made.

    My thoughts....we really should be aiming for a July / August release if at all humanly possible, so that would work.

    What would your ETA be do you think then?

    Legions would consist of:

    General
    1 x 1st cohort
    9 x regular cohorts
    auxilia - this could be variable

    Do you need specific compositions for each rebelling army? I guess the answer is yes.

    I can't give an ETA since the systems aren't actually designed yet. It took me a couple weeks with about 6 all nighters to get the Roman one in a working order. If I'm actually given the full details of a system it shouldn't take me as long now unless it is very complex, which it looks like will be the case. Keravnos and MT are coming up with some amazing ideas but I need some concrete lists of names, criteria etc to actually code anything at all.

    And yes, I need specific names of units from the EDU for each rebelling army.
