My iPod collection is getting stale. Jazz, reggae, classical, hip-hop, anything good from those genres.

Charlie Mingus. The Black Saint and Sinner Lady and Epitaph. If you do not have them already.
I need new music as well but don't want to hijack your topic.

For raggae, do you include Dub? If you're not allready into the genre, I heavily reccomend king Tubby.
Its difficult to recommend acts when you have no idea what someone is into or who they allready know about. I'll just mention some of my favourites from each genre and if you know them allready then no matter.
Jazz: Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk
Classical: 'Modern' but more traditional: Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Orff, Muggorsky, Schoenberg, Prokofiev. More experimental: Stockhausen, Varese, Cage.
Hip-Hop: The Coup, Dead Prez, Braintaz (all political Hip-Hop)
Do you listen to jugle? Given that you like Raggae and Hip-Hop you might enjoy it. Shy FX, Micky Finn and the Freestylers might provide a good introduction if you are interested.
I'm looking for dub! I'm getting a Scientist album, apart from that and Dreadzone I don't know much. That King Tubby song was great, if you know any more stuff I'd bve grateful for any recommendations.
Unorthodoxt:
Sun Ra has about a billion albums, some great jazz ranging from very chill to avant-garde craziness. 'Lanquidity' & 'Sleeping Beauty' are great albums, I highly recommend them.
Dreadzone's first album is slightly dated but absolutely amazing otherwise. Really rich atmospheric dub, it's very hard to find though.
Black Uhuru is much like Bob Marley.
DJ Shadow - Quality instrumental hip-hop. It's a classic.
I usuallt thinkone should start with the fundementals of a genre as it were, so King Tubby and, as someone said, Lee Scratch Perry are my first picks. I suppose its also worth mentioning that Burning Spear and Black Uhuru played their parts in founding the genre. Other than that, Bill Laswell (he did a lot of non-dub too), African Head Charge and Mad Professor are all good.
I will have to investigate.
The big reggae artists that any Reggae fan needs to have are the following
Bob Marley (duh)
Bunny Wailer
Peter Tosh
Burning Spear
Black Uhuru.
Those are the big 5 names of Reggae.
As for dub (I guess still technically reggae), there is no better place to start than the man that started it all, Lee "Scratch" Perry.
Jazz
Like God said, Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" is the first jazz album that any Jazz fan MUST have.
Other excellent Miles albums include:
Sketches of Spain (my 2nd favourite)
B|tches Brew
In a Silent Way
A Tribute to Jack Johnson
The last three are all prime examples of Jazz Fusion. Other fusion bands include The mahavishnu Orchestra (I did a review of one of their albums in my review thread), Weather Report, Return to Forever, Al di Meola, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorious (if you want mad bass playing), and Stanley Clarke.
Charles Mingus is great, I recommend "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady", and "Mingus Ah Um"
Charlie Parker and Dizzie Gillespie were two of the big bebop jazz musicians. Highly recommend. Thelonious Monk is also magnificent. Get "Monk's Dream"
Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and Django Reinhardt if you want to hear some of the best jazz guitar ever.
