    Default CTD on battle begin

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I can't see it.

Whenever I try to begin either a custom battle, a siege, or a field battle, ithe loading bar fills fully and then crashes. The normal medieval 2 game doesn't do this, so I don't think it's hardware problems. :\

I've tried the game both packed and unpacked, and that doesn't seem to help.

silly question but if you unpacked game did you remove the descr_geogaraphy files

It's currently packed (by reinstalling medieval/kingdoms, then third age), so I assume not. :p

Hmm, just ran a search and it can't seem to find descr_geography though, unless my search settings are weird.

even reinstalling doesnt fix unless you scrub all files of pc not just uninstall learnt that the hard way unpack the game again and delete descr_geography_new txt and db versions as these when unpacked cause it to ctd on finishing load of battle you using vista or xp

I'm using vista. Yeah, shoot me now. :p

It's unpacked. I can't see the descr_geography_new file in the sega folder.

lol same problem i had and i almost shot myselfwhen its unpacked again the only way i could find those files and it was a pain was to do a search then advanced search for descr_geography_new ticking box saying to look in program files and un indexed areas as i could not find it at all in the game files something about the wat vista unpacks it but you will end with a search that has the 2 files you need to kill well it worked for me thats search everywhere not just sega files dont ask me why but it worked for me

    BTW, thanks for helping.

the 2 files from rome total war are just descr_geography not descr_geography_new i found them myself did you do search for that file again i had to search my whole pc for the bloody things

    That's what I did, I searched everywhere.

And I only searched for "geography", incase the file had been misnamed or whatever.

    I'm stumped. :\

EDIT: I've just completed a research using the same stuff accidently, and it's popped up and found them.. weird. Now that they've been found and deleted, what shall i do?

you did a search thenwhen that fails to find it you did an advanced search ticking the box to search unindexed and programe files looking for specificly descr_geography_new?? should work i only did it an hour or 2 agon myself now play it should work just load a camp game and rush to a battle by doing hotseat rush to close factions and see if it loads battle i had np from there

It works. Custom battles anyway, haven't checked the rest. Thanks for your help! +imaginary rep, can't do it until 50 posts. :p

If anybody sees this thread and has +50 posts, rep him for me please?

hmmm... that's all pretty weird. I have currently no real idea what the problem could be...

Could you please post your system.log file (in m2/logs) right after the crash happened?

You also may try to delete the "battle.sd", "shared.sd" and "strategy.sd" files from "Third_Age/data/ui" & from "Medieval II Total War/data/ui". Maybe this could help...

anybody had luck in fixing this?

I have not unpacked the files, i do however have some of the sub mods running, like the nerfed garrison script and the 'stronger alliances' sub mod.

I removed TATW completely and reinstalled, and battles worked for a few turns, but i tried to start a battle outside edoras as isengard and it CTD'd to desktop instantly...

Am reinstalling kingdoms and everything again at the moment
