Thread: Asia: Deciphering the Zodiac (In Alpha Stages)

  1. #1

Icon10 Asia: Deciphering the Zodiac (In Alpha Stages)

This mod is not at all limited to China. The purpose of this mod is to bring Asia into the Empire Total War game.

I admit I was disappointed that I could not take over the world using the country of my ancestors.

And so I want to mend this problem now.

*This is an expansion of the original game, and is not meant to overhaul the game*

*This mod is based around the mod, A Proper Empire: Terra Incognita*

I invite all other Asia related mods to join in as well. I plan to include all the Asian countries.

Modders and Photoshop People needed! PM me if you are interested.

Modders, we can start building up factions, buildings, religions, units, traits, agents, etc. until someone develops a campaign map creator (which will allow us to put Asia on the map!)
Photoshop, we need people to make the textures (from scratch or from just mods of other units)

This is not meant to be a question of ethics, racism, etc. This is a historical reality mod to be developed with

the resources given. Do NOT try to view it as anything but this.

Certainly, this is just a start. I want to be able to give everyone some textured units first, so y'all can have something to look forward to. I'm working on finding some designers since I am no Photoshop master.

I like your ideas, but you should realize my Chinese ain't that great.

Try to keep it English if you can, otherwise, I will do my best. But yes, I will make those changes to the information once I have time. And Taiwan was definitely under Qing rule during the 18th century, the Ming remnants in Taiwan were conquered in the 17th century. -_-

And the movie most of those pictures are from is called "The Warlords." Awesome movie about the latter Qing.

    Don't you Chinese?
As you know, unlike Euro's balance factions
China is the only superior faction until mid 19th century, with the rise of Japan
so it may be too easy to use Qing

Will you only do countries in the map you posted, or go a little further? I'd love to see Indonesia in. Here's a fairly decent source: http://www.gimonca.com/sejarah/sejarah03.shtml

I can't find a map, but Jakarta was Dutch-controlled at the time and the rest was Indonesian natives. I might also be able to help with some basic-ish modding. Also, will India/Siberia be in or will they just be "black hole" regiosn?

I do speak Chinese, but I don't read Chinese too well. I am ABC.

As for the Chinese superiority issue... You WOULD be correct if China had been more willing to expand globally. As it stands, China had always been the Middle Kingdom, and thus, they felt no need to go out, when they were "the center of all that was good." And China actually struggled greatly against the Dzungars and rebellion during the 18th century. Also, Siam and Vietnam were both powers that China was unable to conquer during this period. So, China was not almighty as some would believe, albiet, this was the Qing Dynasty's golden age.

I will certainly expand. I am only setting up a basic core of factions first. Once I have more information about the time period, more factions and countries will be added.

5% Catholic for Korea? I don't think there was even 1% in 1700.
According to wikipedia, the first prayer house was established only in 1784.
I do think that there should be missionaries as the game progresses, but I have the impression that Christian presence on 1700 was so minimal that they should not exist in game terms.

Yes, I also have some pictures myself. As well as more information, I haven't updated in a while thought. Classes. Thanks for the great pics.

I was debating about including the Philippines, I suppose I must.

As for the Christianity, yes, you are correct. Amended. Thanks.

Do y'all mind looking into the kingdoms and regions of the Philippines and Malaysia? (And what lands the kingdoms constituted in 1700 - This part has been troublesome... There are many kingdoms for such a small area)

    Cool idea for a mod,
It would be good to have some new diplomatic options to portray the "treaties" all the europeans put upon china.
also In the last photo Ranger posted, there is a soldier with a long rifle over another soldiers shoulder, We have one of those rifles at my work in an RSL (ex-soldiers club) that is over 9 feet long (and still in working order) i could get a photo of it if you want. but it was used as a mobile small calibre cannon.

Fairly easy, maybe the whole Viceroyalty of New Spain, and maybe there local auxilliares, the Guardia Civil (not the SPanish one.) And maybe the Sultanate of Sulu.

If u want to know more about the factions in Malaysia and Indoensia during this time, simply look at our forum under "Official Faction Roster" in the Să-laa Glang (town hall) section. I hope very much that you can find some experts on Korea and Japan during this period to help you. If this mod really takes off the runway then we could talk about an even closer relation between our mod projects

I haven't updated this in a long while. I've been busy with APE:TI and other stuff. I don't really intend to make major updates on this until a time when CA allows us to create campaign mapping.
Updating all the text is really... dull and I ain't gonna do it until it's "worth my while"

Meanwhile, I have developed more land/naval units for the factions.
I have begun the process of choosing several resources of trade for regions (villages, ex: Japan - Tea Plantation, China - Jade Mine)
I have changed the map to my political map (as in I made it, I do not give anyone permission to use it, it is for my uses only - I hate the map, it will never be perfect).

    About regions.

Most countries have 1 or 2 regions. China has a whopping 24. The regions listed are all historically provinces of China. (Asia > Europe in size) So I really am not sure about what people think about the size. But, China will be like the Mughal Empire in that their troops will be limited to a few regions at start, and will be vulnerable. Also, with APE:TI China will have a huge manpower disadvantage, and will have to concentrate on defense much more than offense, which was how history went.

All the white colored regions in Indonesia generally belong to either United Provinces or Spain. (I left them colorless to represent this)

I still need information about famous generals/admirals/ministers/spies/scholars.

I want to try not to make up people... So far, all information used is from researching history books, internet, and other sources.

    Please tell me y'alls thoughts.

And again, this mod is to be made with APE:TI in mind since that is what I am most familiar with.

Hokkaido wasn't apart of Japan at this point if I'm not mistaken, the Ainu people lived there.

And i'm not quit sure about Sakhalin belonging to the Chinese at this point either.

Thanks for the information. I will remove Sakhalin. Hokkaido was definitely under Japan's control, but the Ainu were not cooperative citizens are in history had 3 rebellions against Japan. The Ainu will be the rebels of Hokkaido, and Japan will get more regions now. Their populations deserve it.

EDIT: Although Japan never officially claimed Hokkaido until 1868.

EDIT EDIT: On further study, Sakhalin was in fact territory of China.
